ASSET PROTECTION/SAFETY INVESTIGATOR (Full Time w/Benefits)

Job Summary

Responsible for protecting Navy Exchange assets through investigative strategies and auditing controls designed to prevent and minimize loss.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

Surveillance & Investigations

  • Maintain surveillance throughout assigned Navy Exchange facilities to identify and detect suspicious activity contributing to external and internal losses.

  • Utilize overt and covert Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) systems and other surveillance techniques.

  • In accordance with established NEXCOM Loss Prevention & Safety (LPS) policies and procedures, detect and detain individuals suspected of shoplifting.

  • Investigate incidents of fraud, waste, and abuse as directed.

  • Prepare case reports, investigative notes, and process evidence per NEXCOM LPS standards.

  • Conduct investigative research into cash variances and suspicious register transactions using ASPECT Point of Sale Exception Reporting Systems, the In-Store Processor, and other investigative tools.

  • Conduct accident investigations involving associates and customers, including report writing and obtaining photographic evidence, in accordance with NEXCOM guidelines.

  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of all investigative research and case information.

Audits & Controls

  • Conduct audits, as directed by the Loss Prevention Safety Manager or Supervisor, of cash registers, cash offices, retail inventory controls, and service operations.

  • Monitor Known Theft evidence, Lost & Found programs, and Access Control policies specific to assigned facilities.

  • Assist with and monitor the destruction and disposal of zeroed-out merchandise in accordance with NEXCOM policies.

  • Maintain knowledge of inventory shrinkage factors, High Shrink Departments, and strategies to address shrinkage concerns.

Security & Safety

  • Maintain physical security of NEX facilities, adhering to site-specific opening/closing procedures, Key Controls, Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) policies, and Intrusion Detection System alarm protocols.

  • Conduct inspections of fire suppression systems, emergency equipment, and workplace hazards to ensure fire safety compliance.

  • Assist management with facility evacuations and implementation of Force Protection and Anti-Terrorism measures.

Court & Administrative Responsibilities

  • Testify, as required, in criminal and civil court proceedings, including Military Courts Martial, command disciplinary proceedings, and administrative hearings.

  • Adhere to prescribed work schedules in the best interest of the NEX.

  • Maintain a professional image and demeanor in appearance and communication at all times.

  • Comply with department dress code as prescribed by the Loss Prevention Safety Manager or Supervisor.

  • Promote and adhere to NEXCOM LPS programs, including Civil Recovery, Y.E.S. (Youth Education Services) for juvenile shoplifters, Code Adam, and the IDEAS Reward Program.

  • Assist, as directed, with LPS training and awareness initiatives for NEX associates.

  • Perform other related administrative and investigative duties as assigned.

Eligibility Requirement
Candidates must be eligible for and obtain a Secret Clearance within six (6) months of appointment. Failure to obtain clearance will result in termination.


U.S. Citizenship:
Required

General Experience
  • One (1) year of responsible experience in clerical, office, or retail sales/store work of any kind.

  • Experience must demonstrate the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled.

Specialized Experience
  • One (1) year of experience demonstrating knowledge of general law enforcement methods and techniques OR

  • Experience in investigative-type work that included:

    • Protection of property, equipment, or materials

    • Enforcement of rules and regulations

    • Effective person-to-person communication and relationship management

Substitution of Education for Experience
  • For the required two (2) years of experience, one (1) year of academic study above the high school level may be substituted for each year of experience.

  • Academic study must include at least six (6) semester hours in one or more of the following subjects:

    • Police Administration

    • Police Law

    • Evidence

    • Investigation

    • Criminology

    • Law Enforcement

    • Or closely related subjects
