Assistant Accountant

Job Summary

You should possess excellent analytical skills along with the ability to combine different data and perform cost analyses and prepare budget reports.Leading Landscaping and Irrigation Contractor based in Dubai seeks experienced and certified Accountant responsible for performing professional-level accounting work in the maintenance and review of fiscal records.The position requires considerable knowledge of basic accounting principles and accounting functions in the construction industry.

Responsibilities

• Setup projects in Xero/Project Module with WBS structures; enter approved owner contract change orders; review of owner contracts.
• Prepare and maintain cash flow analyses as needed and analyze monthly financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, and statement of cash flows)
• Responsible for maintaining a computerized accounting system, backup control, assisting accounting staff with questions and generating computer reports and statements.
• Download/populate/upload and reconcile transaction and payment records, budgets, subcontracts, job costs, bonds, certificates of insurance, releases of liens, payables/receivable records, purchase orders and change orders from Construction ERP, HR, IT, Operations, Inventory, Sales, Procurement & Fleet Management Platforms to Xero Accounting Systems.
• Applying generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) to analyze financial information and prepare both external and management based financial reports
• Maintain records for account receivables, deposits, prepaid/accrued expenses, Monthly reconciliation and payment processing of credit card statements and revolving credit accounts.
• Maintain the general ledger and all related accounts with proper documentation and records of all company transactions and prepare collection and billing reports
• Review monthly job costs reports and project cost tracking reports for accuracy and alignment; make corrections and updates as directed and prepare final project cost tracking reports upon job completion.
• Review General Ledger on a regular basis, to ensure cost codes are being properly used, and create new ledger accounts or new transaction codes to assure accuracy and compliance with the company’s established accounting principles.
• Maintain fixed asset records, determine depreciation terms/rates to apply to capitalized items
• Administer the preparation of interim, year-end and comparative financial reports and provide analyses of current results to prior periods and/or budgets.
• Supervise and manage inventory control process coordinating physical inventory and weekly cycle counts, investigating variances and resolving associated issues

Job Requirements

• Experienced with accounting for complex business entities especially a parent organization with multiple subsidiaries
• Must have experience with construction cost accounting processes and software systems such as Xero, Corecon, Procore;
• Thorough knowledge of standard costing and associated rates with the ability to develop and maintain the cost accounting system with verifiable and accurate reporting
• An aptitude for quantitative analysis, critical thinking and must have high proficiency in Microsoft Excel including macros, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, INDEX MATCH, SUMIF advanced functions for data analysis.
• Minimum 3 years experience preferably in the Construction sector specialized in Cost Accounting and MIS/Financial Reporting.
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting from an accredited university with a major in the field of Cost Accounting.
• Excellent English verbal and written communication skills is a must, knowledge of the local language will be an advantage
• Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment and able to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines
