The
Bob Keppel Criminal Justice Division (CRJ) of the Washington State Attorney General’s Office has an exciting and rewarding opportunity in its downtown Seattle office for an attorney interested in investigating and prosecuting financial crimes!

Duties

The Financial Crimes Team investigates and prosecutes a wide variety of cases including wage theft, identify theft, complex fraud, elder fraud and crimes committed by government employees and public officials. We seek an attorney with significant litigation experience to combat fraud in Washington.

The selected candidate will work closely with senior AGO investigators, as well as state agencies and state, local and federal law enforcement partners to investigate and prosecute financial crimes. While the primary focus of this position is prosecuting financial crimes, the selected candidate should be proficient in prosecuting a full range of crimes.

The Attorney General’s Office receives criminal referrals from any of Washington’s 39 county prosecuting attorneys or the governor. The selected candidate will work in downtown Seattle, but travel around the state for court hearings, investigations and trial preparation as necessary.

Qualifications

In addition to meeting the qualifications to serve as an Assistant Attorney General, preferred candidates will also possess:
  • At least three years of trial experience and trial practice in criminal law;
  • Exceptional legal research, writing and oral advocacy skills;
  • Strong interpersonal skills that promote a collegial, inclusive and respectful workplace;
  • Demonstrated good judgment when exercising discretion in criminal cases;
  • The ability to work independently and in a variety of settings;
  • Commitment to public service and justice for victims of crime; and
  • Admission to practice law in Washington state courts.

To serve as an Assistant Attorney General, one must have graduated from a law school accredited by the ABA or completed the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program; and be licensed to practice law in Washington state. (Applicants who meet the other stated qualifications and are actively pursuing admission by motion will also be considered.) The incumbent will submit to additional background checks as a condition of employment every five (5) years thereafter.

Supplemental Information

This Assistant Attorney General position is represented by the Association of Washington Assistant Attorneys General (AWAAG) / Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) AFSCME Council 28, AFL-CIO. AAG salaries are set between $82,212 and $153,996. This position is located in King County and is thus eligible for 5% King County Assignment Pay. The exact amount is set in accordance with Appendix B of the AWAAG CBA. A competitive state benefits package is also offered which includes a choice of medical/dental insurance plans, retirement, life and basic long-term disability insurance.
