THE POSITION : The City Attorney’s office represents the City in all aspects of legal representation. The City Attorney’s office advises the City Council and all City officials in all maters of the law pertaining to the business of the City of Hawthorne.

The Assistant City Attorney reports to the City Attorney and is responsible for the more complex matters involving a high degree of sensitivity and consequences for the City. The Assistant City Attorney will be an inclusive and thoughtful legal professional who listens first, seeks input, and then consistently presents legal options for consideration, allowing for a thorough analysis of all aspects of an issue. The ideal candidate will also be able to evaluate controversial situations and present options in a clear and concise manner.

Minimum Qualifications

Education, Training and Experience

  • Graduation from the law school of a law school accredited by the American Bar Association.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in the active practice of law in the municipal context or experience in general liability practice involving public entities.

Licenses, Certificate and/or Special Requirements

  • Membership in the California State Bar and admission to practice before the California Supreme Court.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate valid State of California driver's license and proof of insurance are required at time of appointment.
