Description:

Assists the Chief Compliance Officer in overseeing the university's compliance programs and the formulation, execution, and evaluation of strategic compliance planning in support of the university's vision, mission and values. Assists with managing the day-to-day operations of large university program or department, which may include the supervision of staff employees, student workers, programs or processes.

1. Responsible for the overall coordination of the processing, maintenance and communication of university and system policies; interfaces with administration, faculty and staff in the development, revision and processing of policies and procedures.

2. Plans, develops and implements procedures for administering large or complex department, program or process. 3. Assists the Chief Compliance Officer with the functioning of, work, and initiatives of the UH Office of Compliance and Ethics, the UH Institutional Compliance Program, and the UH Institutional Compliance Committee.

4. Assists with providing compliance-related training to and working with institutional representatives to maintain compliance standards.

5. Helps create awareness of the university's compliance program, compliance initiatives, policies and procedures.

6. Works with the Office of Legal Affairs, the Internal Auditing Department and other UH departments, to respond to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

7. Manages fiscal activities, including procurement and budget analysis.

8. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MQ: Education: Requires singular knowledge of a specialized advanced professional discipline or the highest level of general business knowledge, normally acquired through attainment of a directly job-related terminal degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Preferred: J/D from an ABA accredited Law School. Experience: Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience or equivalent formal training. Certification/Licensing: Requires professional licensing, certification or registration directly related to the job, as specified on the job posting.


Assistant Compliance Officer – Desired Skill Set

The Assistant Compliance Officer should bring strong operational discipline, attention to detail, and the ability to ensure consistent execution of compliance initiatives. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following skills and attributes:

  • Project Management – Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and drive projects to completion across departments, ensuring accountability for milestones and deliverables.
  • Regulatory and Policy Expertise – Strong working knowledge of relevant compliance regulations and the ability to draft, interpret, and refine policies and procedures.
  • Clear and Diplomatic Communication – Communicates with professionalism and tact across all levels of the organization; able to foster collaboration and build trust with operational departments.
  • Documentation and Record Management – Ensures accurate, thorough, and defensible documentation for investigations, due diligence reviews, and compliance assessments.
  • Risk and Controls Proficiency – Translates qualitative risk assessments into measurable controls and performance metrics; supports ongoing monitoring and testing activities.
  • Follow-Through and Reliability – Consistently drives initiatives forward and maintains program momentum, ensuring deliverables are met and reports are updated on schedule.
  • Collaborative Temperament – Works effectively with departments that have varying levels of compliance maturity; patient and steady in managing cross-functional relationships.
  • Technology and Data Competence – Proficient in compliance systems, case management tools, and analytics platforms; able to implement and optimize technology solutions that enhance efficiency and transparency.
