We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Controller to join our accounting team. The ideal candidate will support the Controller in overseeing the day-to-day grain accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, compliance with internal controls, and assisting with monthly and annual financial reporting. This is a key leadership role that will work closely with cross-functional teams and play a significant part in shaping and maintaining strong financial practices.Experience in grain handling, commodities, or agricultural operations is a strong plus.
Key Responsibilities:
Grain and General Accounting
- Process and reconcile grain purchases, sales, and settlements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
- Record daily grain receipts, grain and feed shipments, and adjustments to maintain accurate position and inventory records.
- Reconcile scale tickets and contracts with accounting system data.
- Assist with cash receipts, accounts payable, invoicing, and accounts receivable processing.
Financial Accounting, Reporting, and Controls
- Assist in managing the monthly and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Prepare and/or review journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses.
- Support preparation of monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Maintain supporting schedules and reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts.
- Assist with internal and external audits, providing documentation and explanations as needed.
- Help ensure compliance with state grain dealer licensing and bonding requirements.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Participate in system upgrades, ERP implementations, and other finance-related projects.
- Help lead and develop accounting staff, providing mentorship and performance feedback.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting or corporate accounting experience.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
- Proficient in ERP accounting software and Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Effective communication and people skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Experience in supervising or mentoring a team is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
