We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Controller to join our accounting team. The ideal candidate will support the Controller in overseeing the day-to-day grain accounting operations, ensuring the accuracy of financial records, compliance with internal controls, and assisting with monthly and annual financial reporting. This is a key leadership role that will work closely with cross-functional teams and play a significant part in shaping and maintaining strong financial practices.Experience in grain handling, commodities, or agricultural operations is a strong plus.

Key Responsibilities:

Grain and General Accounting

  • Process and reconcile grain purchases, sales, and settlements, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies.
  • Record daily grain receipts, grain and feed shipments, and adjustments to maintain accurate position and inventory records.
  • Reconcile scale tickets and contracts with accounting system data.
  • Assist with cash receipts, accounts payable, invoicing, and accounts receivable processing.

Financial Accounting, Reporting, and Controls

  • Assist in managing the monthly and annual close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Prepare and/or review journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analyses.
  • Support preparation of monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain supporting schedules and reconciliations for balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Assist with internal and external audits, providing documentation and explanations as needed.
  • Help ensure compliance with state grain dealer licensing and bonding requirements.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Participate in system upgrades, ERP implementations, and other finance-related projects.
  • Help lead and develop accounting staff, providing mentorship and performance feedback.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
  • Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting or corporate accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and internal controls.
  • Proficient in ERP accounting software and Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and people skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience in supervising or mentoring a team is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
