Assistant Controller

Position Summary

Rupp Pfalzgraf is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Assistant Controller to support the Controller in managing the firm’s accounting operations and financial reporting. This role will play a critical part in day-to-day accounting functions, supporting all accounting functions, ensuring accuracy of financial records through periodic audits, and maintaining the firm’s compliance with applicable regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong accounting foundation, a collaborative mindset, and an interest in process improvement and automation.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting Operations & General Ledger

  • Assist with and serve as backup for daily, weekly, and monthly accounting activities, including the areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, billing, and general ledger.
  • Monitor and review transactions to ensure accuracy, completeness, and proper classification
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Maintain internal controls and ensure adherence to accounting policies and procedures.

Trust & Specialized Accounting

  • Assist with trust accounting transactions and reconciliations, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor trust account activity and support periodic reviews and audits.

Reporting & Analysis

  • Assist with client financial requests.
  • Field questions related to timekeeper KPIs.
  • Assist with the preparation of management reports and financial analyses.
  • Support the development and maintenance of automated reports and dashboards to improve efficiency and accuracy.

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Assist in identifying opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve controls.
  • Participate in accounting system enhancements, upgrades, and automation initiatives.
  • Document procedures and support best practices across the accounting function.

Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with the Controller and other finance team members to support firm-wide financial objectives.
  • Provide guidance and support to accounting staff as needed.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business-related field.
  • Strong understanding of general accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities.

Preferred

  • CPA or CMA certification (or progress toward certification).
  • Prior experience in professional services, legal, or trust accounting environments.
  • Experience with financial reporting automation and process improvement initiatives.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
