Assistant Controller

Responsibilities:
What You'll Do:
  • The Assistant Controller is a key member of our Finance & Accounting team, responsible for comprehensive program and financial accounting for multiple government contracts within the Aerospace Division. This hands-on leadership role ensures fiscal compliance, program cost accuracy, robust internal controls, and timely reporting in accordance with Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and company policies.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes for assigned government programs, ensuring precision in financial reporting, cost allocation, and revenue recognition (ASC 606).
  • Directly supervise and mentor accounting staff responsible for program financials, and audit support.
  • Prepare, review, and approve complex journal entries, account reconciliations, and schedules; ensure adherence to FAR/DFARS and CAS.
  • Serve as the primary financial liaison for DCAA/DCMA auditors; coordinate audit preparation, respond to audit requests, and resolve findings.
  • Collaborate closely with program managers, contracts, supply chain, and executive leadership on program performance, funding requirements, and contract compliance.
  • Oversee timekeeping, labor distribution, and cost segregation processes to maintain accounting integrity and ongoing audit readiness.
  • Assist in policy and procedure development to strengthen internal controls and compliance framework.
  • Support and lead ERP/accounting system implementations and process enhancements (preferably SAP S4 Hanna).
  • Participate in budget development, forecasting, and trending analyses for government-funded programs.
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis and reporting to drive program profitability and financial stewardship.
  • Coordinate preparation of financial data for external/internal audits.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline; CPA or Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 8 years of accounting and finance experience, with at least 3 years in a government contracting environment (aerospace/defense strongly preferred).
    • Deep knowledge of FAR, DFARS, CAS, and DCAA/contract audit procedures.
    • Hands-on experience with program/project accounting, indirect rate development, and government contract billing.
    • Expertise in external and management financial reporting for government contracts.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
    • Experience supporting major DoD, NASA, or other federal agency contracts.
    • Prior Big 4 or public accounting firm experience.
    • Working knowledge of revenue recognition (ASC 606) and program EVMS reporting.
    • Exposure to SOX/internal controls and process improvement initiatives.
  • Skills:
    • Exceptional communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
    • Demonstrated experience mentoring and supervising accounting staff.
    • Proven ability to multi-task and thrive in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.
  • Other Requirements:
    • U.S. Citizenship required
    • Active security clearance or ability to obtain is a plus.
  • Software:
    • Proficient with ERP/accounting software (Deltek Costpoint, Unanet, SAP, or similar) and advanced Excel.
  • Technology:
    • Company-issued computer, printer, copy machine and other general office equipment.

  • The successful candidate’s starting pay will be based on, but not limited to, their job related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.
  • The following salary range is intended to display the value of the company’s base pay compensation and may be modified at the discretion of the company.
    • USD $ 150,000 - 220,000
  • Provided salary range minimum and maximum values correspond to variances between regional/geographic locations across the United States.
