Responsibilities:
Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and hospital policies and procedures, including those pertaining to confidentiality; uses appropriate communications skills with physicians, patients, family members, and hospital staff in person and via telephone; responds to overhead pages; assists with orientation of new employees; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety standards; accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict; assists the director in all aspects of managing the department; assists the director in performing personnel functions for the department to include: recruitment, hiring, disciplinary actions, evaluations, counseling and education; follows University and Hospital policy related to personnel functions; utilizes all available resources to assure effective performance of the department; translates the department or institution strategic plan to staff, ensuring support of the plan, and modifying the plan in response to changing internal and external factors; coordinates and assists in directing programs of maintenance, engineering and plant operations and buildings within the University Hospital complex; maintains and reviews equipment maintenance history records; performs and coordinates emergency work to maintain continuous operations of essential services; develops a plan for employees who are below satisfactory in their evaluation and completes re-evaluations in the appropriate timeframe; reviews maintenance repair and costs and recommends overhaul or replacement of equipment; could travel to various USA and USA Health locations; regular and prompt attendance; the ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent, six years of maintenance experience, three of which were in a supervisory capacity, and possession of a valid driver’s license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance under the University of South Alabama.
