Assistant Director, MBA Program Office, MBA Program Office | McDonough School of Business - Georgetown University

This position is responsible for assisting in the effective delivery of an exceptional MBA experience for approximately 950+ Full-time, Flex, and Flex Online MBA students. This includes activities and responsibilities relating to both the academic and co-curricular components of the MBA program. Assistant Directors serve as academic and program advisors for multiple cohorts of students in each class of either the Full-time, Flex, or Flex Online MBA Program—overall 140-210 students, depending on which program and cohort they are currently advising. Successfully advising these diverse groups of students requires not just a solid understanding of a complicated program with many different details and policies, but also the ability to assess, interpret, and advise based on the unique situations and backgrounds of each student. In supporting students from initial onboarding through graduation, this position provides counsel on a range of student life cycle issues, including academic progress, academic program policies, financial aid, visa services, student life, student activities and/or programs and services, accessibility, and community standards, in order to assist students in making appropriate choices and decisions. Meetings and events happen frequently and all throughout the day and at times, evenings and weekends. As needed, s/he also serves as general liaison with other university offices (e.g., University Registrar, Academic Resource Center, Counseling and Psychiatric Service, Office of Global Services) to support students with any academic or personal issues.

This Assistant Director will also play an instrumental role in developing messaging and programming to welcome incoming MBA students and support current students; liaising between students, Program Office and Admissions team members, and leadership; working with faculty on exam administration; and training and supervising a team of students responsible for serving as the first point of contact for prospective students and visitors. This Assistant Director will also provide support to the deans in the MBA Program Office on timely strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing the MBA student experience.

Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Serve as primary academic and program cohort advisor, providing individualized guidance on academic progress, program policies, and student success issues from onboarding through graduation
  • Act as liaison between students and university offices to resolve academic, administrative, and personal issues affecting student progress.
  • Coordinate and support academic and co-curricular components of the MBA program, including exam administration, tutoring support, registration, and initiatives that enhance engagement and retention.
  • Provide operational and project support to MBA Program Office leadership and deans on strategic initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Train and supervise a team of student employees who serve as the first point of contact for prospective students and visitors.
  • Some evening and weekend work is required

Work Interactions
The Assistant Director reports directly to the Associate Director of Academics, MBA Program Office, and is an integral member of the MBA Program Office team. They work closely with the Senior Associate Dean and the Associate Dean in the MBA Program Office, as well as the other Academics team members, and MBA Full-time, Flex, and Flex Online students. This position also interacts regularly with faculty, alumni, prospective students, MBA Admissions team, MSB offices and teams, and other university departments (e.g., University Registrar, Academic Resource Center, Counseling and Psychiatric Service, Office of Global Services). Assistant Directors in the MBA Program Office work as part of a team of ten student service professionals who together oversee and promote excellence in all aspects of the MBA student experience. This includes management of both the academic experience (e.g., curriculum planning, registration, graduation audit) and the co-curricular experience (e.g., student government and clubs, celebratory events, commencement). Different individuals will take primary responsibility for a particular set of activities in order to become expert in the details. Assistant Directors will manage projects that affect students’ experiences while at MSB and will take leadership roles on program initiatives including orientation, graduation, academic registration, and academic planning. Assistant Directors in the MBA Program Office must think critically, work independently, and demonstrate not just mastery of policies and procedures, but the ability to assess and adjust to the needs of individual students. This position requires balancing several priorities at once, and success in the role depends on the ability to stay organized, adaptable, and proactive.

This role directly contributes to the University’s mission by delivering holistic, student-centered advising grounded in cura personalis. By supporting diverse MBA students across the full student lifecycle, coordinating with faculty and campus partners, and reinforcing community expectations, Assistant Directors contribute to the preparation of principled global leaders.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 2-3 years in a student services or equivalent role and/or higher education environment required
  • Must be proficient with Google Workspace, including Google Sheets/Excel
  • Must be a multi-tasker, extremely organized, and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Must be a self-starter. Must have strong attention to detail and be able to work under tight deadlines
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a University setting, especially with customer/student facing role, highly preferred
  • Familiarity with student information systems and platforms is a plus
  • Experience with MBA or other professional graduate programs preferred
  • Master’s degree in higher education, business administration, or relevant field preferred

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$44,022.00 - $73,406.80
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
