Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) supports the Director of Nursing in overseeing nursing operations within inpatient residential treatment facilities, including programs with detoxification services and, as applicable, PHP and IOP settings. The ADON assists in ensuring high standards of patient care, regulatory compliance, staff supervision, and operational efficiency across nursing services.
This role provides leadership to nursing staff, supports policy implementation, assists with performance improvement initiatives, and ensures adherence to state Nurse Practice Acts, federal regulations, and accreditation standards. The ADON functions as a key member of the nursing leadership team and may assume responsibility in the absence of the Director of Nursing.

Required Hiring Criteria (minimum qualifications)

  • Current, active, and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment, in good standing with the applicable state Board of Nursing
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program;
  • Ability to pass background screening, drug screening, and credential verificationin accordance withregulatory requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of state Nurse Practice Acts, medication management standards, and healthcare compliance requirements

Desired Qualifications

  • Prior experience in nursing management within residential or inpatient behavioral health settings
  • Experience with Joint Commission, CARF, orlicensingother accreditation surveys
  • Bachelor’s orMaster’s degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field
  • Experience in policy development,performanceimprovement, and staff education
  • Experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder treatment, detoxification services, or related healthcare setting
Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist the Director of Nursing in overseeing daily nursing operations and ensuring quality patient care
  • Provide direct supervision and support to Charge Nurses, House Supervisors, and nursing staff, UNIT Clerks and BHT MAT Coordinator
  • Monitor compliance with clinical standards, medication administration protocols, detoxification procedures, and documentation requirements
  • Support staffing plans, scheduling coordination, andappropriate coveragebased on patient acuity
  • Participate in recruitment, hiring, onboarding, training, and performance evaluation processes for nursing staff
  • Assistin development, review, and implementation of nursing policies and procedures
  • Ensureaccurateand compliant controlled substance management and medication reconciliation processes
  • Participatein,performance improvement initiatives, and incident review processes
  • Monitor adherence to infection control, OSHA, and safety standards
  • Serve as clinical leader in the absence of the Director of Nursing
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to promote continuity of care
  • Support regulatory survey readiness and accreditation compliance
  • Other duties as assigned by the facility CEO or Director of Nursing

  • Visual/Auditory/Dexterity demands – Ability to assess patient condition, read medication labels and documentation, and communicate clearly
  • Environmental Factors – Clinical/residential treatment setting; potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens; PPErequiredas applicable
