Assistant Director of Crisis Services

Description

With the opening of the Crisis Recovery Center in September 2025, the DuPage County Health Department achieved a milestone in building the ideal behavioral health crisis system for our community. We are excited to offer this leadership opportunity in Crisis Services as a key role in the expansion and enhancement of the continuum of Crisis Services available to county residents who may be experiencing a mental health or substance use crisis. This position will have primary responsibility for the implementation, evaluation and oversight of the “Safe Place for Help” element of SAMHSA’s National Guidelines for Crisis Care (2025 National Guidelines for a Behavioral Health Coordinated System of Crisis Care (Download PDF reader)), which will be the Crisis Recovery Center at the DuPage County Health Department. This full-time position works a 5-day work week, 37.5 hours per week, with need for occasional evening hours.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and manages Crisis Services programming specific to the non-medical on-site/in-person services provided. This includes Medical Withdrawal Management Unit, Sobering Care, Crisis Residential, and Triage/Assessment.
  • Implement and refine the policies, procedures, and workflows related to the operations and services provided at the Crisis Recovery Center.
  • Develops and maintains positive working relationships with community stakeholders, external social services agencies and other emergency and crisis services providers.
  • Ensures compliance with organizational policies and procedures, contracts, accreditation standards and applicable laws and regulations.
  • Provides leadership and direction to Crisis Services staff including promoting positive morale, encouraging creativity and teamwork and providing training and resources to staff.
  • Participates with other members of the leadership team to develop department priorities and goals.
  • Makes recommendations and initiates improvements to increase efficiency, improve quality of care, or result in other positive operational impacts.
  • Pursues and develops proposals for outside funding, assists with the allocation of Crisis Services funds and monitors compliance with various funding sources.
  • Develops systems to track and evaluate service delivery, monitors and analyzes program outcomes and implements quality control processes and monitors use of outcome tools.
  • Attends community meetings to represent Behavioral Health and Crisis Services.
  • Cultivates supportive relationships with caregivers and family members of clients
  • Participates in emergency response activities as assigned.

Requirements

Completion of a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, Nursing, or related field and seven years of experience in community mental health services including five years of experience in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Clinical licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Illinois Registered Nurse licensure required.
