Assistant District Attorney

Job Summary:

The Chemung County District Attorney’s Office is seeking full-time Assistant District Attorneys. Applicants should exhibit a strong interest in criminal law and be interested in fast-paced, hands-on courtroom experience, with many opportunities to grow professionally.

Applicants should expect early opportunities for motion practice, discovery, hearing appearances, and trial work in Elmira City Court, Chemung County Court, and 14 Justice Courts. Applicants have the opportunity to do both grand jury presentations and Appellate Division practice. Additional opportunities are available for those attorneys interested in specialty courts, such as Chemung County Drug Treatment Court, Veterans Court, Domestic Violence Court, DWI Court, and Mental Health Court.

The unique size of the office affords each Assistant District Attorney the opportunity to gain experience quickly. Each attorney has the ability to fully engage in all aspects of the practice of criminal law, collaborate with law enforcement, and confer with the District Attorney himself. The District Attorney values staff with a diverse background of experience, proficiencies, and expertise.

Qualifications:

Candidates should be duly admitted to practice in New York State in good standing. However, candidates who are sitting for the bar exam or pending results should apply as well.

Residency:

Assistant District Attorneys will need to reside in New York State, in Chemung County .

Pay: $92,250.00 - $128,300.00 per year
