The Assistant Electrician will play a key role in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems while upholding the highest safety standards. This position is ideal for someone with a strong foundation in electrical theory, experience working from schematics and blueprints, and a disciplined approach to lock-out/tag-out procedures.

This position offers a consistent, set schedule with a guaranteed 40 hours a week, paid training, and opportunities for overtime is available. All equipment is provided on the job.

Essential Functions:
- No energized work shall be performed. All work shall be performed under proper lock-out/tag-out procedures.
- Maintain electrical wiring system and components in accordance with the provisions of the National Electrical Code and Industry Standards.
- Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
- Diagnose causes of electrical problems or failures for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair.
- Thorough knowledge of electrical theory and methods, materials, tools, equipment, and systems used in the electrical trade.
- Inform personnel regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions.
- Inspect electrical systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventive maintenance actions.
- Operate and use required tools and equipment skillfully and safely; assemble, install, maintain, and repair electrical apparatuses; make rough sketches; estimate cost, time and materials of electrical work.
- Inspect, troubleshoot, isolate and repair electrical malfunctions using various test instruments.
- Maintain, test and repair electrical equipment for safety and efficiency; plan the layout and wiring of new or existing installations under lock-out/tag-out procedures.
- Fabricate electrical parts; inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable exterior and interior safety codes and regulations.
- Inspect related work performed by contractors; estimate cost, time and materials for electrical projects; participate in the maintenance and operations of an electrical shop.
- Clean, maintain and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.
- Experience utilizing electrical schematics, diagrams, and specifications.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on electrical load centers and distribution systems under lock-out/tag-out procedures.
- Analyze electrical plant operational characteristics and make recommendations to correct deficiencies and respond safely and appropriately to emergency situations.
- Experienced in and/or knowledgeable of traffic monitoring and control systems.
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Ability to operate and perform work in a bucket truck.
- Any other duties as assigned by a supervisor.
Required Education:
- High School diploma or demonstrated equivalent.
Required Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of field experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical components.
- Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License
