The Opportunity:
Tetra Tech is adding a motivated Assistant Environmental Scientist to support a variety of environmental projects based out of Glen Allen, VA, with work throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. This role focuses on field-based environmental assessments, compliance support, and data collection, working closely with project teams to deliver high-quality results.
The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, team-focused, and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and travel to project sites as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

Assist with Waters of the U.S. (WOTUS) delineations and associated reporting
-
Support threatened and endangered species surveys
-
Conduct and assist with Phase I Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs)
-
Complete detailed field notes, daily reports, forms, and checklists

Support health and safety assessments and site audits
-
Work collaboratively with project managers, natural resource leads, and field teams
-
Travel to project sites and perform fieldwork in a variety of environmental conditions
-
Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.

Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.

Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.

Required Qualifications:
-
B.S. or M.S. in Environmental Science or related field
-
0-1 year of experience.

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project)

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills

Ability to work independently with guidance and as part of a team

Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively

Willingness and ability to travel for field assignments

Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
Experience supporting wetland delineations, threatened and endangered species habitat surveys, or Phase I ESAs
-
Familiarity with environmental field data collection methods and reporting

Experience working in consulting or field-based environments
Physical Requirements:
-
Ability to perform fieldwork in outdoor environments, including uneven terrain and varying weather conditions

Ability to walk long distances, stand for extended periods, and carry field equipment (up to 30 lbs.)
Work Environment / Environmental Factors:

Primarily field-based role with travel throughout the Mid-Atlantic region

Exposure to outdoor conditions including heat, cold, and rugged terrain

Work may involve active construction or environmental sites

Compensation:
Pay commensurate with experience.
Pay Range: $55,000-$70,000 annually
Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
