Assistant Finance BI Leader

Job Summary:

The Assistant Finance BI Leader assists with the delivery and ongoing support of finance dashboards, automated reporting, data requests, complex financial models, issue resolution, and ad-hoc analytics for FP&A and key Finance partners. Reporting to the Finance BI Leader, this role serves as the primary day-to-day deputy/second-in-command by helping manage priorities, coordinate work intake, remove blockers, and ensure consistent, timely, high-quality delivery across the portfolio. The Assistant Finance BI Leader brings strong Finance acumen with hands-on technical expertise in Power BI and SQL, translating business questions into scalable reporting and data solutions.

This role requires a self-starter who can operate with minimal supervision, take ownership of outcomes, and proactively drive work forward. Equally important, the role ensures work is clearly communicated—providing regular status updates, surfacing risks and dependencies early, aligning stakeholders on timelines, and documenting decisions to maintain transparency. The Assistant Finance BI Leader partners closely with IT, Finance, and internal customers to support and execute the implementation of technology tools and data capabilities, while also developing and coaching team members, strengthening team workflows/documentation standards, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement and excellence.

Job Duties:

  • Serves as Assistant to the Finance BI Leader by supporting day-to-day team leadership, helping set priorities, managing intake, and ensuring commitments are met across concurrent requests
  • Operates as a self-starter with minimal supervision by independently driving initiatives forward, identifying next steps, and removing blockers while keeping the Finance BI Leader informed and aligned through proactive communication
  • Manages requests for Power BI reports, enhancements, data pulls, and process automation from requirements to deployment and ongoing support
  • Collaborates closely with business partners across IT, Finance Leadership, and other Finance pillars to improve financial analytics, reporting efficiency, and business outcomes
  • Partners with FP&A and other Finance teams (e.g., Billing/Collections) to define metrics, business rules, and reporting requirements
  • Establishes and maintains BI development standards, user training, documentation for key reports and datasets, and repeatable workflows (intake, testing, release/change)
  • Manages stakeholder expectations and ensure alignment on scope, timelines, and delivery dates; escalate risks/issues as needed
  • Leads special projects and finance improvement initiatives, including cross-functional implementations of new tools and capabilities
  • Other duties as required


Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Coaches, advises, and develops assigned staff within the Finance BI team
  • Supports the Finance BI Leader in developing team capability and capacity through training, documentation, and continuous improvement
  • Provides mentorship, Power BI/SQL best-practice guidance, and report/code review to ensure quality and consistency

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; focus on Finance, Accounting or Data/Analytics, preferred

Experience:

  • Finance experience: 5+ years in corporate finance, FP&A, or finance operations, required
  • Power BI experience: 3+ years building and supporting production dashboards, preferred
  • SQL Experience: 2+ years writing queries and reports, preferred
  • Prior experience working within a professional services firm such as accounting, financial services, business advisory, and/or banking industries, preferred

Software:

  • Highly proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced Excel, required
  • Experience with OneStream or EPM systems, preferred
  • Experience with Oracle or similar ERP systems, preferred

Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong analytical abilities, including ability to interpret financial results
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; able to translate between Finance and technical audiences
  • Demonstrates ability to successfully collaborate with other departments
  • Effectively interacts with internal customers at all levels
  • Advanced financial modeling skills
  • Ability to coach and develop analysts/developers; provides quality review and promotes best practices
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to successfully multi-task and cope with ambiguity
  • Strong attention to detail

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $120,000 - $140,000 Maryland Range: $120,000 - $140,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $120,000 - $140,000
