THIS POSITION REQUIRES FULL-TIME, ON-SITE PRESENCE IN SANTA FE.

DFA's Office of General Counsel provides legal advice and direction for all state financial transactions, budgetary functions, grant administration, and infrastructure expenditures, working closely with executive and legislative leaders to support state agencies, local governments, tribal governments, and federal partners.
Why does the job exist?

To represent the Department in litigation and transactional matters of moderate to intermediate difficulty. Facilitate execution of legal representation of the Department at the direction of the General Counsel.
How does it get done?

The position will act as department's Assistant General Counsel to provide professional legal services sensitive matters, including advising a number of employment and administrative matters, analyzing the impact of new legislation on Department operations, representing the Department in a variety of fora such as departmental, legislative , and community meetings, and preparing and reviewing written legal analysis, such as briefs, memos, research materials and other related documentation.

The position will be based at the Office of the Secretary of the Department of Finance and Administration (Department) and will perform various legal duties under the direction and guidance of the Department's General Counsel. The Assistant General Counsel, under the direction of the Department's General Counsel will be responsible for advising on state budgetary and legislative appropriation language, state and federal laws, personnel and human resource matters, Department contracts, the Inspection of Public Records Act (IPRA) inquiries, and other matters as assigned by the Department's General Counsel.

Minimum Qualification

Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law. Must be licensed as an attorney by the Supreme Court of New Mexico or qualified to apply for limited practice license (Rules 15-301.1 and 15-301.2 NMRA). Employment Requirements

Candidate must be licensed to practice law in New Mexico and in good standing with the New Mexico State Bar.

State issued ID or Driver's License.

Pre-employment criminal background check is required, and employment is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting: late hours, weekends, on-call and callback work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel is required. Possible exposure to irate clientele. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints.
