NYPL is seeking an Assistant Library Maintainer to maintain and repair library building systems and equipment to provide an environment that is clean, safe and comfortable for our Library users and employees.
Responsibilities:
Under the direction of a Supervising Maintainer, the Assistant Maintainer:
- Performs minor repairs to the lighting equipment, including the relamping and ballast replacement of all electrical fixtures
- Performs elementary preventative maintenance work on mechanical equipment, air conditioning, plumbing, carpentry, and painting.
- May be assigned to work in any trade as required
- May be assigned to work in Manhattan, Staten Island, Bronx, and Long Island City locations.
- Performs related duties as required
Required Education and Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Valid Driver’s License and clear driving record
Required Experience
- Experience and education with electrical, plumbing and HVAC systems
- Experience in building trades in and in the operation and maintenance of large scale heating, air conditioning (Large Central Units and Package Units), elevator, electrical, and plumbing systems
Required Skills
- Knowledge and experience in maintenance and repairs of mechanical and electrical systems
- Successfully demonstrated experience in all phases of building maintenance, including painting, plumbing, and/or carpentry.
- Good oral and written communication skills
- Ability to set up work from scaffolds and ladders
- Basic knowledge of computers
- Must pass a physical examination
