Job Purpose

To support the internal audit function by conducting audits of shipping operations, documentation, depot activities, NVOCC processes, accounts, and compliance. The role ensures operational accuracy, financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and strengthens internal controls across all shipping and freight-forwarding functions.

Key Responsibilities1. Operational & Process Audits (Shipping/NVOCC)

  • Audit BL issuance processes, ensuring accuracy of Master & House BL.
  • Review import/export documentation, manifest filing, DO issuance, LOI handling, and cargo release procedures.
  • Monitor compliance in freight booking, slot agreements, and vessel schedules.
  • Audit NVOCC operations, including container bookings, free-time management, and detention/demurrage calculations.
  • Review customer invoicing, receivables, freight collection, and credit approvals.

2. Depot / Container Yard Audits

  • Verify container repair & maintenance charges, yard movements, and repair approvals.
  • Audit container tracking, damage reports, stock accuracy, and reconciliation with principals.
  • Validate vendor billing for transportation, depot services, and handling charges.

3. Financial & Compliance Audits

  • Examine freight invoices, agency fees, surcharges, THC, local charges, etc.
  • Ensure adherence to local and international shipping regulations (Customs, FBR, Port authorities).
  • Check compliance with SOPs related to cargo handling, sealing, and documentation.
  • Verify AP/AR records, bank reconciliations, and customer settlements.
  • Review petty cash, office expenses, vendor contracts, and procurement compliance.

4. Risk & Control Management

  • Identify operational risks in shipping cycles (booking → documentation → release → billing).
  • Recommend improvements in internal controls, fraud prevention, and process optimization.
  • Ensure confidentiality and integrity of sensitive shipping data.

5. Reporting & Follow-Up

  • Prepare audit observations with impact analysis and practical recommendations.
  • Follow up with the operations, documentation, and finance teams to ensure closure of audit points.
  • Provide regular updates to the Manager/Head of Audit.

6. Coordination

  • Liaise with Operations, Documentation, Finance, Customs clearance, Depot teams, and Principals.
  • Support external auditors during financial audits.
  • Train junior auditors on shipping-related audit procedures.

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of shipping operations, freight forwarding, NVOCC cycles, and BL processes.
  • Good command over audit techniques, SOPs evaluation, and risk assessment.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and strong follow-up skills.
  • Familiar with ERP systems, container tracking systems, and shipping software (e.g., CargoWise, Logisys, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and report-writing abilities.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s / Master’s in Finance, Commerce, ACCA, or CA Inter.
  • 2–4 years of audit experience in shipping, freight forwarding, NVOCC, or logistics companies (must).
  • Hands-on understanding of import/export documentation, CY operations, and container management.
