Aga Khan University's (AKU) Department of Community Health Sciences (CHS) is a preeminent public health institution in the country. CHS has five major sections – Epidemiology & Biostatistics, Health Policy & Management, Population & Reproductive Health, Environmental-Occupational and Climate Change (EOHCC), and Non-Communicable Diseases & Mental Health.

Job Roles / Responsibilities:

You will be responsible to:

  • develop and maintain GIS maps using relevant software and tools
  • collect, process, and integrate spatial and field data
  • ensure accuracy and consistency of geospatial datasets
  • plan and supervise field data collection activities
  • coordinate with field teams for GPS data capture and verification
  • conduct field visits to ensure data quality and adherence to protocols
  • implement quality control checks for spatial and attribute data

  • identify and resolve discrepancies in datasets
  • support development of GIS-related project workplans and timelines
  • track progress of mapping activities against deliverables
  • liaise with internal teams, partners, and external stakeholders
  • prepare GIS maps, reports, and presentations
  • share spatial insights to support decision making

Requirements

you Must have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geography, Geoinformatics, GIS, Environmental Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Professional certification or specialized training in GIS tools (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, GPS systems) will be an advantage
  • Minimum 4–6 years of relevant experience in GIS mapping, geospatial data management, and field-based data collection
  • Proven experience in supervising field teams and coordinating GIS-related projects
  • Experience working with GPS devices, spatial databases, and GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, or equivalent)

  • Experience in large-scale mapping exercises, surveys, or research/public health projects is preferred
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and GPS-based field data collection tools
  • Strong understanding of spatial data concepts, coordinate systems, projections, and georeferencing
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders
  • Proficiency in MS Office and basic data management/reporting tools
  • Willingness to conduct field visits and work in diverse field conditions
