Position Title: Assistant Store Manager I

Job Identification:
  • Immediate Supervisor: Store Manager.
  • EEOC Class: Sales Workers.
  • FLSA Status: Non-Exempt.

Salary: $22.00 Hourly

Job Summary:
The Assistant Store Manager will assist the Store Manager in the effective operation of a Goodwill Store, oversee related functions and activities, and administer company policies and procedures. They will prepare related reports, reconcile daily receipts, make bank deposits and maintain store security.


Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Manages the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • Coordinates and oversees the day-to-day workflow of employees.
  • As requested by the Manager, conducts or assists with performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
  • Assists the Manager with employment actions, including discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Assists the Store Manager in monitoring employee performance, identifying and facilitating opportunities to increase productivity and efficiency.
  • Manages daily aspects of the store and its staff to ensure projects are completed and goals and customer needs are met.
  • Forecast sales and order merchandise.
  • Drafts, submits, and presents various performance and management reports.
  • Manages inventory of store merchandise.
  • Price and markdown merchandise properly; return unsold merchandise.
  • Handles funds properly as required for store operations.
  • Addresses customer needs and resolves issues, ensuring positive and long-term customer relationships.
  • Maintains store security measures and takes appropriate actions on known and suspected theft.
  • Enforces safety practices and procedures and prepares related reports.
  • Accepts permanent / temporary assignments in other locations at discretion of District Manager.
  • Manages conflicts and resolves complaints about or within the store.
  • Responsible for a neat, clean and organized store.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned that would lead to successful operation of department, team, and/or mission.

  • Ability to speak/read/write proficient English.
  • Basic mathematical skills, as needed to make change and give refunds.
  • Excellent customer service, sales, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to create and present ideas, reports, and budgets in various formats.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to assign and delegate tasks.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Honesty, integrity, reliability, punctuality.
  • Must be able to work any store hours (Saturday through Friday: 7:00am – 8:00pm.)
  • Appropriate dress attire.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Required Experience:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and or abilities required for the position. Individuals must be able to pass a criminal background.

  • Valid driver license and insured/reliable vehicle.
  • Background check.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to traverse warehouse to observe physical inventory.
  • Prolonged periods standing (up to 8 hours.)
  • Must be able to lift/pull/push up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Ability to bend/squat/stoop.
  • Good vision.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time.
  • Free from drug and alcohol abuse.

  • Electronic cash register/POS system.

  • Smart Safe.
  • Computer and telephone.
  • Charge Card terminal.
  • Hand truck.
  • Broom, dust mop, wet mop, water bucket.
Personal Protective Equipment Used – Assigned at orientation/as needed:
  • Safety belt
  • Gloves
  • Goggles
