Job Title: Assistant Manager - Production

Department: Production

Grade Band: Management

Reporting To: General Manager - Container Conversion Business


Job Purpose

To support and oversee day-to-day production operations in container conversion projects, ensuring timely delivery, quality compliance, cost control, safety adherence, and efficient utilization of manpower, materials, and machinery. The role focuses on translating production plans into executable floor activities while driving continuous improvement and operational discipline.


Roles and Responsibilities

Production Planning & Execution

  • Assist in developing and executing production plans for container conversion projects (offices, accommodation units, retail units, specialized containers).
  • Translate project drawings and specifications into floor production activities.
  • Monitor daily production schedules to ensure adherence to timelines, quality, and cost targets.
  • Coordinate sequencing of fabrication, welding, insulation, MEP works, and finishing activities.


Operational Control and Supervision

  • Supervise production supervisors, foremen, and technicians on the shop floor.
  • Allocate manpower, machinery, and tools efficiently based on workload and project priorities.
  • Track production output, downtime, rework, and material consumption.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping and 5S practices within the production facility.


Process & Quality Assurance

  • Ensure all container conversion works meet approved drawings, client specifications, and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections during fabrication and conversion stages.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC teams to address non-conformities and corrective actions.


Material & Cost Control

  • Coordinate with procurement and stores to ensure timely availability of materials.
  • Monitor material usage to minimize wastage and cost overruns.
  • Support production cost tracking and variance analysis.
  • Assist in identifying cost-saving and productivity improvement initiatives.


People Development & Performance

  • Support onboarding and training of production staff.
  • Provide feedback, coaching, and on-the-job guidance to supervisors and technicians.
  • Identify skill gaps and recommend training interventions.

  • On-Time Project Delivery – Ensure 95% of projects meet scheduled timelines - (25%)
  • Quality & Compliance – Maintain 98% adherence to technical and quality standards - (20%)
  • Cost & Material Efficiency – Material wastage reduction and adherence to production cost budgets - (15%)
  • Team Effectiveness – Ensure staff are trained, productive, and compliant with safety standards - (10%)

Education and Experience Requirements

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Industrial Engineering, Production Management, or related field.


Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in production operations, preferably in container conversion, industrial, or manufacturing settings.
  • Proven track record in managing production teams, implementing process improvements, and ensuring quality compliance.


Work Environment & Specific Requirements

  • Office and workshop/yard-based environment with exposure to industrial operations.
  • Ability to work under time-sensitive, high-pressure conditions.
  • Must follow company safety, quality, and operational standards.
