The Assistant Operations Manager is responsible for the coordination of the utilization of drivers and trucks to maximize productivity and ensure prompt, courteous and efficient service to all customers. He/she will work alongside the Terminal Manager and operations personnel to help coordinate scheduling, manage communication, and will plan and assess the dispatch of drivers to meet customer expectations. Responsible for managing a group of drivers with the dual goals of maintaining a high level of on-time customer loading and delivery, overall customer service and supporting driver needs while directing their work.

Essential Job Responsibilities include:
- Direct drivers at shift change.
- Plan predetermined routes and accommodating route changes as needed.
- Communicate via email and calls with potato plants and other customers.
- Communicate with drivers on schedules and loads.
- Communicate with the shop on repairs and maintenance schedules.
- Make delivery adjustments based on changes at the plant, equipment breakdowns or employee issues.
- Promptly handling calls and requests from drivers, management, and customers throughout duration of shift.
- Communicate with customers daily on their product needs, product delivery schedule and any variances.
- Work with the Terminal Manager to ensure all drivers are adhering to safety policies and work practices.
- Conduct regular driver safety observations and provide coaching to reinforce safe driving habits.
- Work with the General Manager and Human Resources to ensure all company policy is being followed by employees.
- Travel locally to production plants, customer locations and make visual observations of product level and conditions.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Attention to detail and accurate data entry skills.
- 2–3 years of experience as a truck dispatcher in a similar industry (CDL is a must)
- Experience working with, or ability to learn transportation management software, such as Samsara, like EROAD, and RTA.
- Proficiency in office software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Gmail.
- Ability to monitor drivers’ logs, truck maintenance schedules, and repairs.
- Knowledge of applicable transportation regulations and laws.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Good driving record.
- Occasional overnight travel required.

- On-Time Performance: Drivers consistently meet customer loading and delivery windows, with on-time rates tracking at or above target thresholds.
- Customer Satisfaction: Customer concerns and delivery variances are communicated proactively, with issues resolved promptly and professionally. Repeat complaints are minimized.
- Driver Management: The driver team operates efficiently and safely under clear direction, with documented safety observations and coaching completed on a regular cadence.
- Operational Responsiveness: Route changes, equipment breakdowns, and scheduling conflicts are resolved quickly with minimal disruption to service levels or customer commitments.
- Compliance & Safety: Drivers adhere to DOT regulations and all company safety policies. Safety observations are documented, and corrective coaching is applied consistently and in a timely manner.
- Communication Quality: All internal and external communications (drivers, customers, shop, management) are accurate, timely, and professional. Issues are escalated appropriately rather than left to resolve on their own.
- Policy Adherence: Company policies are enforced consistently and fairly, in alignment with HR and General Manager direction.
- Software Proficiency: Transportation management tools (Samsara, EROAD, RTA) and office software are utilized effectively to track schedules, driver logs, and maintenance records.
