Assistant Preschool/Pre-K Teacher

Position Summary

HaLev Early Childhood at the J is delighted to welcome a passionate Assistant Preschool/Pre-K Teacher to our team at the Capp Center in St. Paul. Assistant Teachers bring warmth, patience, flexibility, and a gentle spirit to their work, along with experience supporting children ages 3 to 5. In this role, they help create a nurturing and engaging environment where young children can grow and thrive.


Assistant Teachers have the meaningful opportunity to encourage independence, support the development of physical strength and confidence through open-ended, joyful play, and nurture each child’s sense of self and safety.   • Provide high-quality care to our children and families in a manner which reflects the mission and values of the Minnesota JCC.
  • Challenge each child to reach their potential, and guide their activities academically, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
  • Meet the daily needs of the children through caregiving activities such as toileting, meals, and napping.
  • Assist in the room maintenance to keep the classroom and center a safe, clean, and loving environment.
  • Rotate classroom materials regularly based on the observed interests of the children, HaLev Early Childhood at the J monthly Jewish themes, and children developmental stages.
  • Foster relationships with families through daily communication regarding activity, growth, and development.
  • Complete evaluations and conduct fall and spring parent-teacher conferences.
  • Work with teachers and aides in the classroom to form a positive, supportive environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two (2) years postsecondary education from college or university and 1040 hours of experience
  • Have an understanding of The Creative Curriculum and knowledge of how to implement this curriculum into the classroom
  • Knowledge of Jewish culture and traditions, or willingness to learn
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, environmental stewardship, and social justice

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven attention to detail, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Positive attitude and dedication to providing exceptional customer service
  • Commitment to the highest professional and ethical standards
  • Experience developing and implementing age-appropriate curriculum
  • Experience completing evaluations and conducting parent-teacher conferences
  • Follow and meet MN Rule 3 requirements

Abuse Risk Management

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with participants
  • Attend required abuse risk management training
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high risk activities and supervising participants
  • Report inappropriate behaviors and policy violations
  • Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Assistant preschool/pre-K teachers are regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and sit on the floor with children
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions
