Assistant Principal (K–8 Instructional Leadership)
Location: 1445 W Baseline Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85041
Compensation: $67,000 – $80,000 year-round salary, DOE, plus bonus opportunities

Position Overview
The Assistant Principal at AMS South Mountain serves as a key instructional leader responsible for supporting high-quality teaching and learning across K–8 classrooms.
This role focuses on teacher development, instructional coaching, and data-driven academic improvement in core academic subjects, including English Language Arts and Mathematics. The Assistant Principal works closely with the Principal and academic leadership team to strengthen instructional practices, analyze student performance data, and ensure rigorous, standards-aligned instruction across classrooms.
The ideal candidate brings strong experience teaching core academic subjects in a Title I K–8 environment, along with demonstrated success in teacher leadership, instructional coaching, and classroom supervision.
This role requires a leader who is passionate about developing educators, improving instructional quality, and maintaining a structured and achievement-focused school culture.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
Support implementation of high-quality instruction aligned with AMS curriculum and academic standards.
Conduct regular classroom observations and provide actionable feedback to teachers.
Coach teachers in strengthening instructional practices in core academic subjects (ELA and Math).
Support teachers in implementing effective instructional strategies that improve student achievement.
Teacher Development & Coaching
Provide ongoing instructional coaching and mentorship to teachers.
Support teacher growth through observation, feedback cycles, modeling, and professional development.
Assist in developing strong instructional teams across grade levels.
Facilitate professional learning opportunities focused on improving classroom instruction.
Data-Driven Academic Improvement
Analyze student performance data to identify trends and instructional priorities.
Lead or support data meetings with teachers to develop targeted instructional action plans.
Monitor academic progress and support teachers in implementing interventions.
School Culture & Student Support
Support a structured and achievement-focused school culture grounded in high expectations.
Help maintain systems that promote positive student behavior, engagement, and accountability.
Collaborate with teachers and support staff to ensure student success academically and socially.
Collaboration & School Operations
Work closely with the Principal and leadership team to implement school-wide initiatives.
Support operational responsibilities including scheduling, testing coordination, and compliance requirements.
Participate in leadership meetings and network professional development aligned with AMS priorities.
Qualifications & Competencies
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher.
Minimum three (3) years of successful teaching experience in K–8 core academic subjects, including:
English Language Arts
Mathematics
Self-contained elementary classrooms
Experience teaching in a Title I or high-need school environment.
Demonstrated teacher leadership experience, such as:
Department chair
Grade-level or team lead
Curriculum or instructional committee leadership
Experience conducting or supporting instructional coaching and teacher supervision.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience using student achievement data to inform instructional decisions.
Proficiency with data systems and tools such as Excel or student performance platforms.
Commitment to preparing students from historically underserved communities for long-term academic success.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Education or Educational Leadership.
Bilingual (Spanish-English).
Experience supporting instructional coaching across multiple grade levels (K–8).
Experience working in a high-performing charter school environment.
Arizona Principal certification or eligibility.
