ABOUT THE COLLEGE

John Jay College of Criminal Justice is a senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) and an internationally recognized leader in educating for justice. Led by President Karol V. Mason, John Jay is a federally designated Hispanic-serving institution, it is ranked third in the nation in Black student success, and it is a top ten institution for promoting student social mobility. POSITION OVERVIEW

The Department of Law, Police Science, and Criminal Justice Administration (LPS) at John Jay College of Criminal Justice invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin Fall 2026.

The successful candidates will teach a variety of courses in the undergraduate program including Research Methods and a variety of courses for the department’s majors and minors. The hiring committee is especially interested in applicants who contribute to the diversity mission of the college through their teaching, leadership, community service, research, and/or lived experiences.

The prospective candidates should have expertise and a scholarly focus on Policing and/or Corrections best practices and comparative aspects of the profession, including a demonstrated capacity for qualitative and quantitative research and publications. Course load is 6 classes per year. Significant course release is available for newly appointed faculty. Teaching, departmental and college service, and an active research and publishing agenda are expected.

The Department of Law, Police Science, and Criminal Justice Administration is a Flagship Department of John Jay College of Criminal Justice. We are an interdisciplinary department whose faculty specialize in criminal justice broadly defined. This includes the fields of criminal justice, international criminal justice, policing, law, courts, and corrections. LPS is home to the Criminal Justice Bachelor of Science (CJBS) major which enrolls more than 3,000 undergraduate students, the Police Science Major and, on a rotating basis, the International Criminal Justice Major.

Candidates are expected to bring enthusiasm and demonstrated commitment to teaching and to develop and maintain an active research and publication agenda. The successful candidate must be eager and qualified to work with our diverse student body. QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates must have a PhD or J.D. in a related field at the time of appointment. Also required is the ability to teach successfully, a willingness to participate in course and program development, potential for research and academic publication, and the ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

COMPENSATION

$57,252 - $109,025. Salary commensurate with education and credentials.
