FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The Women and Gender Studies Department invite applications for an assistant professor in Women, Gender in the Global South. The position is expected to start Fall 2026. We seek a scholar who, through their research and teaching, critically engages with the intersections of gender, race, class, uses feminist praxis and centers marginalized communities. We welcome applicants whose research and teaching are grounded in a range of interdisciplinary and disciplinary backgrounds, included but not limited to, feminist decolonial and anti-colonial research methodologies; community – based and participatory research practices. We are particularly interested in candidates whose work examines education in immigrant and diasporic populations and advances transformative and justice-oriented approaches to education in local and global contexts. The successful candidate will be encouraged to collaborate with related departments and schools in the College.

The position involves teaching, research and guidance duties in the areas of their expertise and will share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in Women’s and Gender Studies or a related field, with demonstrated research focus in Women’s and Gender Studies. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Preferred qualifications include experience with youth focus groups and working with students.

COMPENSATION

Compensation is commensurate with experience within the range of $90,838-$109,025.

CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will increase by approximately 9.54% with an additional increase of 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
