Position OverviewThe Assistant Project Manager supports the planning, coordination, and execution of data center construction and infrastructure projects. This role works closely with senior project managers to deliver mission-critical facilities on schedule and within budget while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety, and operational reliability.
Key ResponsibilitiesProject Coordination & Support Assist in managing all phases of data center projects from design through commissioning and handover. Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and vendors to ensure project milestones are achieved. Track project schedules, budgets, and deliverables using project management tools and methodologies. Prepare status reports, meeting minutes, and project documentation for stakeholders.
Data Center Technical Oversight Support technical reviews of MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) systems critical to data center operations including power distribution, cooling systems, fire suppression, and backup generators. Monitor installation of raised flooring, cable management systems, and environmental controls. Ensure adherence to Tier standards (Uptime Institute) and industry best practices for redundancy and reliability.
Vendor & Contractor Management Assist in contractor selection, bid evaluation, and contract administration. Coordinate subcontractor schedules and resolve conflicts in the field. Review submittals, RFIs (requests for information), and change orders for technical accuracy and budget impact. Conduct site inspections to verify work quality and compliance with specifications.
Quality Control & Commissioning Support quality assurance processes throughout construction phases. Participate in commissioning activities including integrated systems testing, load testing, and performance verification. Document deficiencies and track punch list items through resolution. Ensure all systems meet operational requirements before facility acceptance.
Risk & Safety Management Identify project risks and assist in developing mitigation strategies. Enforce safety protocols and maintain OSHA compliance on construction sites. Monitor critical path activities and escalate potential delays or issues. Support business continuity planning for operational data centers during renovation or expansion projects.
Stakeholder Communication Facilitate communication between project teams, clients, and end-users. Coordinate with IT infrastructure teams on rack layouts, power requirements, and cooling specifications. Prepare presentations and reports for project reviews and client meetings. Maintain positive relationships with all project stakeholders.
Documentation & Closeout Maintain comprehensive project files including drawings, specifications, contracts, and correspondence. Compile as-built documentation, O&M manuals, and warranty information. Support post-occupancy evaluations and lessons-learned sessions. Ensure smooth transition from construction to facility operations teams.

QualificationsRequired:
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field
3-5 years of experience in construction project management, with at least 2 years in data center or mission-critical facilities
Working knowledge of data center infrastructure including electrical distribution (UPS systems, PDUs, generators), HVAC/cooling systems (CRAC, CRAH units), and fire suppression systems
Understanding of data center standards and certifications (Uptime Institute Tier classifications, LEED)
Proficiency with project management software (MS Project, Primavera, Procore) and Microsoft Office Suite
Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Preferred:
Professional certifications such as PMP, CAPM, LEED AP, or CDCP (Certified Data Centre Professional)
Experience with hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data center environments
Familiarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and Revit
Knowledge of electrical codes (NEC), building codes, and data center-specific standards (TIA-942, EN 50600)
Understanding of structured cabling systems and network infrastructure
