Job Description

Job Overview:

Under general supervision of the County’s Prosecuting Attorney, prosecutes complaints for and on behalf of the County and other official agencies.

Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Receives and reviews police reports and arrest warrants from police departments. Advises police agencies on proper legal procedures.
2. Prepares legal briefs for submission to Circuit and District Courts, Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.
3. Represents the people of the State of Michigan in jury and non-jury felony cases in the Circuit Court and District Court, as well as argues cases in front of the Court of Appeals and Supreme Court.
4. Assists less experienced Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys by recommending strategies and techniques.
5. Exercises a considerable degree of independent judgment throughout each state of the criminal justice process and in the preparation of cases.
6. Completes special projects and assignments as requested by the Prosecuting Attorney.
7. Participate in community outreach programs of personal interest to the applicant that align with the office goals.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Graduation from accredited law school is required

Experience: Prior experience is preferred but not necessary. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience. Benefits included upon starting date.
Position eligible for federal student loan forgiveness.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
A member of the State Bar of Michigan. If awaiting bar results, applicant may be hired in pending passage of bar exam.
