Job Description

Job Overview:

Under the supervision of the Prosecuting Attorney and Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, reviews and authorizes requests for warrants, determines the appropriate charge and prosecutes criminal cases. As an experienced veteran Assistant Prosecutor, assumes responsibility for managing a caseload of misdemeanor and felony cases, as well as neglect and abuse cases as needed. Attempts to resolve and dispose of criminal cases or tries cases in court. Extensive trial experience in serious felony cases.

List of Responsibilities and Duties:

• Responsible for managing a caseload of misdemeanor and felony cases. May be assigned some of the more serious or sensitive felony matters.
• Reviews criminal warrant requests from law enforcement agencies, analyzes police reports, collects input from the law enforcement officers, researches the law as necessary to determine applicable criminal charges, and determines whether adequate grounds exist to authorize a warrant. Determines the appropriate charge to be made and directs law enforcement investigations.
• Researches and prepares criminal cases for trial. Requires little direction in filing appropriate motions and is well versed with Michigan Sentencing Guidelines. Skilled in legal research, developing trial strategies and mentoring young APA’s. Executes service of process upon Defendants via certified mail or actual service and executes vouchers for service of process in other jurisdictions.
• Extensive experience as an Assistant Prosecutor in all court proceedings including; arraignments, motions, trials, sentencing.
• Possesses some appellate experience with excellent research and writing skills.
• Extensive experience in working with law enforcement on investigations, arrest procedure, search and seizure, etc.
• Participates routinely in 24/7 on-call attorney rotation.
• All other duties and functions as assigned by the Prosecuting Attorney or Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Law degree from an accredited law school.

Experience: A minimum of 10 years of prior prosecutor experience. PAAM experience preferred.
