The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, invites applications for a Assistant Research Professor position in Infrastructure Engineering. We seek a dynamic researcher whose work advances the future of infrastructure through a multidisciplinary approach, integrating infrastructure management, structural performance, and digital transformation to enhance system reliability, economic efficiency, and long-term asset durability.
Particular emphasis is placed on candidates advancing next-generation solutions in transportation asset management, infrastructure system efficiency, and intelligent infrastructure networks. Competitive applicants will demonstrate a strong record and vision in transforming how civil infrastructure is monitored, maintained, and modernized through the integration of advanced technologies. Areas of interest include structural health monitoring and distributed sensing, AI-driven analytics and design, data-informed asset management frameworks for investment planning and maintenance prioritization, and additive manufacturing (3D printing) for rapid, cost-effective production of infrastructure components. Candidates whose research advances predictive modeling of infrastructure deterioration and system performance by integrating structural health monitoring, physics-based simulations, machine learning, and digital manufacturing to support reliability-based design, maintenance prioritization, lifecycle optimization, and on-demand production of infrastructure components are encouraged to apply.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and sustain a nationally recognized, externally funded research program, building on existing collaborations with federal and state agencies and industry partners. The candidate will contribute to the department’s strategic priorities in innovation, safety, and economic competitiveness, while advancing the development and implementation of next-generation infrastructure solutions.
