Residential & Community Living is responsible for the overall student life program in eight residence halls and nine apartment complexes (10,000+ residents) with a focus on student development and leadership programs, a residential curriculum approach, and conduct and accountability. In addition, R&CL is responsible for resident placement through University and Community Housing Services.

Brief Summary of Job Duties:
The Assistant Resident Director (ARD) is an entry-level full-time live-in position responsible for assisting the Resident Director (RD) with the implementation of the student development program in campus housing at UC Santa Barbara. Under the supervision of the RD, the ARD utilizes a curricular approach and equity mindset as cornerstones of their daily work in facilitating student wellness, development, and belonging in a residential community. The contract term is 12 months (August - July) with the opportunity for a renewal of one additional term. The ARD may be assigned to a community that does not have students residing in the summer, at which time, the ARD will perform necessary duties to assist the department with preparing for fall opening and the upcoming academic year.
