Summary
Our client, a respected San Diego-based commercial general contractor , is seeking an Assistant Superintendent (or experienced General Foreman) to join their team on a commercial construction project in Santa Monica, CA . This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a few years of field experience who is ready to take the next step in their career. The company is open to training the right candidate with strong foreman or lead carpenter experience who has the drive to grow into a superintendent role.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist the Project Superintendent in managing daily construction site operations for commercial projects.
- Supervise and coordinate subcontractors, trades, and crews to ensure work is completed on time, within scope, and to company quality standards.
- Monitor construction schedules, critical path activities, and milestones to keep the project on track.
- Conduct daily jobsite walks, prepare daily reports, and communicate progress/issues to the Superintendent and Project Manager.
- Enforce jobsite safety, lead toolbox talks, and comply with OSHA and company safety standards.
- Support quality control: verify work against drawings/specifications, coordinate inspections, and assist with punch lists and closeout.
- Coordinate deliveries, materials, and equipment logistics on site.
- Interact professionally with owners, architects, engineers, inspectors, and other project stakeholders.
Qualifications & Requirements
- 1–5 years of field experience in commercial construction (Assistant Superintendent, General Foreman, Lead Carpenter, or similar role).
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and schedules.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with proven ability to supervise subcontractors and crews.
- Basic computer and reporting skills (experience with Procore, PlanGrid, Bluebeam, or MS Project preferred).
- Valid California driver’s license and reliable transportation to/from Santa Monica jobsite.
- Must meet all pre-employment requirements, including background check and drug screening.
- Preferred :
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
- Experience with California commercial projects (tenant improvements, retail, office, mixed-use, or ground-up construction).
- Familiarity with Los Angeles/Santa Monica permitting and inspection processes.
