Assistant Supervising Maint Mech Grounds - FT - Day Shift

HOURLY RANGE: $27.44 - $39.47

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves assisting in the supervision of and

participating in grounds maintenance and repair activities and snow removal at the Erie County Medical Center Corporation. Work is performed under the direct supervision of an administrative or supervisory employee of higher rank. Supervision is exercised over a number of grounds maintenance personnel. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

Assists in the supervision of workers involved in grounds maintenance activities;

Assists in and supervises snow and ice removal and related winter activities;

Assists in and supervises a variety of grounds and building maintenance activities such as masonry and fence repair, painting of buildings and other structures, road maintenance and repair, minor building repair and minor equipment repair;

Assigns helpers and laborers to projects, assists them with difficult problems and evaluates performance;

Maintains records of projects, requisitions and/or purchases supplies and confers with supervisor on status and progress of work;

Estimates manpower needs and reports on progress of projects;

Establishes and improves landscaping; i.e. plants grass, flowers, shrubs, trees.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Thorough knowledge of the tools, terminology, equipment and procedures of the skilled general construction, maintenance and repair trades; good knowledge of grounds maintenance and repair and snow and ice removal activities; ability to plan and supervise the work of lower level employees; ability to maintain records and prepare reports; industry and dependability; physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and five (5) years of grounds and equipment maintenance experience at the journeyman level, including experience in landscaping and snow and ice removal.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New York State Commercial Driving License (CDL) at time of appointment.

NOTE: Verifiable part-time and/or volunteer experience will be pro-rated toward meeting full-time experience requirements.
