Job Description
Assistant United States Attorneys in the Criminal Division represent the United States in both the U.S. District Courts and the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals in all cases involving violations of federal criminal statutes. The primary areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, the prosecution of complex drug trafficking crimes, transnational organized crime, violent crime, firearms offenses, immigration offenses, and economic crimes such as wire fraud, mail fraud, and bank fraud. Our Criminal Division AUSAs routinely lead cases from investigation, through charging, pretrial litigation, trial, sentencing, and appeal. Our team works closely with federal, state, and local investigative agencies to disrupt serious criminal threats facing our community.

You must be a United States Citizen or National.
Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory preemployment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
J.D. degree and active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction) required.
Must reside in the district to which appointed or within 25 miles thereof. See 28 U.S.C. 545 for district specific information.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a J.D. Degree, be an active member of the bar (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least 3 year post-J.D. legal or other relevant experience.
United States citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include felony jury trial experience. Applicants must also demonstrate superior analytical ability; have strong research, writing, and courtroom skills; independently exercise fair and sound judgment; follow all Department of Justice and United States Attorney's Office policies; exhibit the ability to work in a supportive and professional manner with other attorneys, support staff, and law enforcement agencies; interact professionally and effectively with opposing counsel; handle matters in court persuasively and justly on behalf of the United States of America; and be devoted to excellence.

Salary
Assistant United States Attorney's pay is administratively determined based, in part, on the number of years of professional attorney experience. The range of basic pay is $63,163 to $165,209 and the range of total pay is $73,939 to $193,394 which includes 17.06% Rest of U.S. locality pay and covers Wichita, Kansas.
