Duties & Responsibilities:
The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences are seeking to hire an Assistant or Associate Professor; tenure-eligible position.
Competitive candidates will have a research agenda that leverages our department’s research laboratory and complements our current laboratory efforts related to integrative physiology, highlighted by the impact of health behaviors such as physical activity, sleep, and nutrition on cardiovascular health and disease, with applications across the lifespan. Furthermore, the new hire will be expected to facilitate the translation of their research outcomes into modalities of care that enhance population health and well-being in the Commonwealth, the region, the nation, and globally. The candidate should also be able to contribute at a level and rate commensurate with the institution’s R1 classification. Numerous opportunities for collaboration exist both within the Department and across the College of Humanities and Sciences and the University. The VCU Health Systems provide outstanding access to clinical populations across the lifespan. Teaching responsibilities include courses at both the graduate and undergraduate level, providing support to the program’s core curriculum. Successful candidates will be expected to meet service expectations of the department, school, university, community and profession.
The position is supported by a competitive compensation package, which includes both dedicated and shared laboratory space. Expected hire date will be August 16, 2026.

The Department of Kinesiology and Health Sciences in the College of Humanities and Sciences is comprised of 15 full-time teaching and research faculty members engaged in an array of clinical, applied, and interdisciplinary endeavors. The undergraduate program is currently the third largest academic program at the institution and consist of concentrations in Exercise Science and Health Sciences. The graduate programs include an MS in Health and Movement Science, with a concentration in Exercise Science and a PhD in Rehabilitation and Movement Science, with a concentration in Applied Physiology and Neuromusculoskeletal Dynamics. Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
Doctoral degree in Exercise Physiology (or similar field of study) with postdoctoral training or a minimum 3 years as a research faculty member (Assistant/Associate) professor. In addition, we are seeking candidates who have demonstrated excellence, originality and productivity in research. The faculty member will be required to have an established research agenda, a clear potential for external funding, and potential for scholarship or creative expression to complement and expand existing expertise in the department.
Demonstrated ability to work in and foster an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from all backgrounds and experiences, or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with clinical populations, specifically in regards to pulmonary, liver, kidney, cardiovascular disease, or cancer. Experience mentoring graduate students in a research setting. Primary teaching experience in higher education at the graduate or undergraduate level.
