The College of Business (CoB) at the University of New England (UNE) invites applications for a tenure-line Assistant or Associate Professor in Economics, beginning in
August 2026
. We are seeking candidates with a Ph.D. in economics or a closely related field (ABD considered), a strong record of teaching and research, and experience in applied economic engagement, including work in industry, policy analysis, public scholarship, community-based research, or with nonprofit and governmental organizations.
The successful candidate will be able to teach introductory and intermediate economic theory courses as well as the history of economic thought. They should bring expertise in their area of specialization and be able to integrate it into their teaching. Candidates who can incorporate the evolution of economic ideas—particularly in response to pressing social and economic challenges—throughout the curriculum will be well-suited for this role.
The College of Business prioritizes experiential learning, preparing students to apply their knowledge in practical settings. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to student engagement by creating dynamic, interactive learning experiences that foster critical inquiry, analytical thinking, and active participation. Experience creating or using Open Educational Resources and Open Access software is highly desirable and supports our commitment to zero-cost course materials.
This nine-month position offers a competitive salary, along with opportunities for summer teaching, interdisciplinary collaboration, and career advancement. Responsibilities
Teaching
The College of Business seeks candidates to teach in its undergraduate economics programs on the Biddeford campus, with courses offered in both the fall and spring semesters. The typical teaching load is 9 credit hours per semester (3-3), with small class sizes. Candidates who can contribute to curriculum development and demonstrate a commitment to using and authoring Open Educational Resources and Open Access software are highly valued.
Research and Thought Leadership
Full-time faculty are expected to maintain an active research agenda that advances economic scholarship, applied policy work, or interdisciplinary inquiry. Thought leadership—through research publications, public scholarship, or policy engagement—is an integral part of this role.

Qualifications

A PhD in economics or a closely related field is required by the time of appointment. Candidates with a combination of academic training and professional experience that provides commensurate qualifications are also encouraged to apply.

Professional experience that enhances teaching and research, as well as the ability to support internship development and career placement for students is highly valued.
