Salary: The budgeted annual salary range for the position is $50,000 to $120,000. Position Summary
The selected individual will be the Associate Director, Doctoring and Clinical Skills (DoCS) course and responsible for teaching and administering the DoCS course for M1 and M2 medical students alongside the Course Director. DoCS is a longitudinal, foundational course on history-taking, physical examination, clinical reasoning, and patient communication, with particular emphasis on empathetically building trust with patients. The successful candidate will be interested in curriculum development, teaching and assessment of clinical skills. The faculty member will provide hands on training opportunities for learners using simulation, small groups, lectures, case discussions, and standardized patient encounters to achieve educational goals. In addition, this position will collaborate with course faculty across the UICOM system to ensure comparable delivery of these skills throughout the college.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • Collaborate with Director of Doctoring and Clinical Skills Course at Rockford Campus.
  • Participate in cross-campus DoCS planning meetings to ensure comparability across the college.
  • Design and update sessions within the DoCS course.
  • Teach lectures and workshops within the Doctoring and Clinical Skills course.
  • Grade and provide feedback to students within the DoCS course.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Phase 1 curriculum to finalize the DoCS course schedule in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate with DoCS volunteer faculty and student educators in the M4 DoCS Mentoring elective.
  • Collaborate with Director of Phase 2/3, Director of Simulation and Simulation Coordinator, and DoCS Coordinator as needed.
  • Assist with Standardized Patient program activities to update scripts for simulation and SP events and assist in training for Standardized Patients.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • MD/DO or its Foreign Equivalent OR PhD in clinical or related field OR Physician Assistant/Associate OR APRN.
  • Must meet the criteria for the rank of Clinical Associate, Clinical Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor

Preferred Qualifications

  • Primary (Internal Medicine, Family Medicine) or emergency care specialty is preferred
  • Clinical practice experience preferred
  • Previous teaching experience in higher education, medical school courses is preferred but not required.
  • Experience teaching clinical skills to medical students is preferred but not required.
