Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking an Associate Director of Strategic Initiatives and Data Analytics within the Analytics Rutgers School of Graduate Studies–Biomedical and Health Sciences.

The Associate Director of Strategic Initiatives and Data Analytics supports the Executive Director for Research Training and Development in advancing the School of Graduate Studies – Biomedical and Health Sciences (SGS–BHS) mission through data-driven strategy and evidence-based decision-making. This position holds primary responsibility for the identification, collection, analysis, and synthesis of data that informs senior leadership’s strategic planning, grant development, program effectiveness, and student success. Areas of emphasis include federal training grant support, graduate student engagement and outcomes, alumni outreach, and leveraging learning management system (LMS) analytics. The Associate Director ensures that data systems are robust, comprehensive, and aligned with institutional goals, providing actionable insights that strengthen graduate education and professional development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
  • Support the collection, organization, and analysis of faculty and student data for federal training grant applications, renewals, and reports.
  • Track and report graduate student engagement, participation, and learning outcomes within the Canvas LMS and other instructional technology platforms, with attention to course robustness and instructional quality.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data collection and reporting framework for monitoring student outcomes, progression, and program effectiveness across SGS–BHS graduate programs.
  • Support strategic planning by contributing data analysis and evidence-based recommendations to guide institutional priorities.
  • Create and manage a data-informed communication and outreach strategy to strengthen alumni relations and engagement with SGS–BHS.
  • Benchmark SGS–BHS graduate programs against peer institutions, identify emerging trends, and translate findings into actionable recommendations.
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and administrative stakeholders across the University to ensure effective integration of data systems, consistency of reporting, and alignment with best practices.
  • Monitor national developments in higher education analytics and learning technologies, applying innovations that enhance program effectiveness and student success.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
  • Represent SGS–BHS in relevant university committees, professional networks, and external partnerships related to data strategy and learning outcomes.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in the sciences, education, data analytics, or related field plus a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant research experience in institutional research, assessment, or data management in higher education.


Certifications/Licenses

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated expertise in collecting, analyzing, and reporting data, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with academic technologies and learning management systems (Canvas preferred), including the use of analytics to assess student learning and engagement.
  • Strong ability to communicate complex data findings clearly and persuasively to diverse audiences, including faculty, administrators, and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively across units, balancing strategic priorities with operational needs.
  • Proven track record of staying current with higher education trends, policies, and data practices to inform institutional decision-making.
  • A collaborative and inspirational leadership style with strong self-motivation.
  • Effective team-building and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in education, data science, statistics, or related field. PhD preferred.
  • Experience in an institutional research office, academic affairs, or related higher education administrative unit.
  • Experience developing data dashboards, predictive analytics, or visualization tools for program effectiveness.
  • Familiarity with federal reporting requirements.
