Associate Attorney

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and versatile General Practice Attorney leaning towards Civil Litigation to join our legal team. The ideal candidate will primarily handle a wide range of general practice skills in the practice areas listed below and in civil litigation matters but will also assist with transactional legal work as needed. This dual role is ideal for a well-rounded attorney who is comfortable in the courtroom and equally adept at drafting and reviewing contracts and other legal documents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent clients in civil litigation matters including contracts, real estate disputes, property, employment, torts, and business litigation.
  • Draft legal documents such as pleadings, motions, discovery requests/responses, and settlement agreements.
  • Conduct legal research and develop litigation strategies.
  • Take and defend depositions; prepare witnesses for trial and deposition.
  • Appear in court for hearings, conferences, and trials.
  • Attend mediations and otherwise negotiate settlements with opposing counsel.
  • Maintain detailed case files and manage litigation calendars.
  • Provide legal advice to clients regarding potential or ongoing litigation matters.
  • Transaction work in the areas of real estate, estate planning and business issues.
  • Work collaboratively with paralegals, law clerks, and other attorneys.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Licensed to practice law and in good standing with the Minnesota Bar.
  • 3+ years of experience in civil litigation.
  • Strong written and oral advocacy skills.
  • Excellent legal research and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases with competing deadlines.
  • Proficient in litigation software and legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw).
  • Membership in outside groups to hone networking and professional skills and relationships.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with trial preparation and courtroom procedures.
  • Mediation and arbitration experience.
  • Familiarity with local, state, and federal court rules.
  • Ability to problem solve, think creatively, and find solutions that others have missed.
