Position Overview


We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Associate Attorney to join our Legal & Business Affairs team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in both transactional and litigation matters, with a minimum of three years of law firm experience. This role requires deep knowledge of U.S. copyright law and the global music publishing business. The Associate Attorney will work closely with departments across the company—including Creative, Royalties, Copyright, Finance, Information Technology, and Human Resources—to support a wide range of legal and operational functions.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support staff attorneys and Chief Counsel in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of music publishing agreements, including administration, co-publishing, licensing, joint-venture, commissioned works, asset-purchase, acquisition, and a wide range of licensing agreements.
  • Advise on copyright ownership, rights clearance, and infringement matters, including settlement negotiations and enforcement.
  • Support international licensing and rights management, including synch licensing and society-based rights administration.
  • Collaborate with external counsel on litigation and dispute resolution matters.
  • Conduct legal research and provide strategic guidance on complex issues involving copyright, royalties, and contract interpretation.
  • Liaise with internal departments to resolve operational and legal issues, including royalty audits, rights reversions, and client issues.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of internal policies and workflows, including contract templates and compliance protocols.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings and calls to ensure alignment across teams.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to the organization of contract and matter management systems.


Qualifications

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience at a law firm, preferably with a focus on entertainment or intellectual property.
  • Exceptional drafting and communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of U.S. copyright law and music publishing industry practices.
  • Experience with neighboring rights, royalty structures, and international licensing preferred.
  • Technological proficiency across multiple enterprise platforms; ability to rapidly learn and adopt new tools.
  • Collaborative mindset and strong interpersonal skills.
