Flannery Georgalis LLC seeks a motivated and talented Associate Attorney to join our dynamic litigation practice. This position offers the opportunity to work on high-stakes, complex criminal and civil matters while developing courtroom skills under the mentorship of experienced trial attorneys. The ideal candidate will combine exceptional academic credentials with strong writing abilities and a genuine passion for advocacy.
Key Responsibilities
- Represent clients in complex criminal defense matters, including white-collar crime, regulatory enforcement actions, and serious felony cases
- Handle sophisticated civil litigation matters, including commercial disputes, constitutional law cases, and high-profile tort litigation
- Draft persuasive motions, briefs, and memoranda for trial and appellate courts
- Conduct and defend depositions, prepare witnesses for testimony
- Appear in court for hearings, arguments, and trials
- Perform comprehensive legal research and analysis on novel and complex legal issues
- Collaborate with senior attorneys on case strategy and trial preparation
- Manage discovery processes, including document review, production, and e-discovery matters
- Maintain direct client contact and provide regular case updates
- Participate in settlement negotiations and alternative dispute resolution proceedings
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school with strong academic performance (top 25% of class preferred)
- Admission to West Virginia Bar (or eligibility to sit for next bar examination)
- 1-5 years of litigation experience (exceptional new graduates will be considered)
- Demonstrated excellence in legal writing through law review, judicial clerkship, or writing competitions
- Strong research and analytical skills with attention to detail
- Genuine interest in courtroom advocacy and trial work
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion
- Professional demeanor and excellent judgment
Preferred Qualifications
- Law Review or Moot Court experience
- Judicial clerkship at federal level
- Prior experience in criminal law, complex civil litigation, or both
- Prior experience as federal prosecutor or public defender
- Oral advocacy awards or competition success
- Published legal scholarship
- Experience with electronic discovery platforms
- Federal court admission
