Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Regulatory & Compliance Support

  • Research and interpret industry laws and regulations (FDCPA, FCRA, TCPA, UDAAP, SCRA, bankruptcy rules, state-specific mandates).
  • Monitor and summarize legislative or regulatory changes across assigned jurisdictions.
  • Assist with updating internal policies, procedures, and compliance documentation.

Audit Coordination

  • Support external client audits and routine requests.
  • Assist with internal audit cycles, QA reviews, and compliance testing.
  • Draft audit responses, prepare evidence documentation, and track remediation efforts.
  • Identify compliance risks, deficiencies, or process gaps.
  • Assist with corrective action plans and follow-up verifications.

Policy & Process Development

  • Support operational process improvements.
  • Participate in developing and delivering internal compliance training.

Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Partner with attorneys, operations, client services, and leadership to ensure compliance consistency.
  • Serve as a compliance contact for assigned clients.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • 0–5 years of legal experience (compliance, regulatory, consumer protection, litigation, or related).
  • Active bar license in any state, though one or more in CA, AZ, CO, NM, or NV is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret laws, regulations, and contract requirements.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong research, writing, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in financial services, collections, or a regulatory industry.
  • Prior involvement in audits, compliance reviews, or policy documentation.
  • Familiarity with CFPB oversight or bank client compliance expectations.
  • Experience with compliance or audit management systems.

  • Working conditions are normal for an office environment. This position involves sitting most of the time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and color vision in reading a computer monitor. Clear speech is needed to communicate on the telephone.
  • This position may be office-based (Santa Ana, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Denver) or remote within approved states. The role involves frequent communication with attorneys, operations, clients, auditors, and compliance leadership.
