POSITION SUMMARY:

The associate director of behavioral operations supports the Director of Behavioral Operations in the leadership, coordination, and daily management of behavioral health programs within our inpatient and outpatient psychiatric programs. This role is responsible to assisting with operational oversight, program implementation, and performance monitoring across inpatient and outpatient behavioral health services. The Associate Director ensures that therapeutic programming, patient flow, and clinical support services operate efficiently and in alignment with regulatory requirements, quality standards, and organizational goals for both the private and civil/forensic service lines.

The position works collaboratively with clinical leadership, medical staff, and administrative departments to maintain safe, effective, and patient centered behavioral health services. This position provides operational leadership to align behavioral health departments and serves as a key liaison between front line staff and executive leadership to support high quality behavioral health care delivery.

POSITION EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Master’s Degree Required in behavioral health, psychology, social work required
  • Clinical License Required such as Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist or other applicable behavioral health licensure
  • BLS certification, required
  • CPI required within 30 days of hire/transfer
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Computer skills required with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE :

  • Five (3) years of prior experience in a mental health setting with progressive leadership experience preferably in behavioral health setting or inpatient settings
  • Experience overseeing multiple behavioral health service lines or programs
  • Demonstrated knowledge of behavioral health regulatory requirements and accreditation standards

Responsibilities:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE DIRECTOR OF BEHAVIORAL OPERATIONS:

  • Promotes the facility mission, vision and values by effectively communicating them to others. Considers mission, vision and values in developing services, standards and practices
  • Provide operational oversight for behavioral health services across the hospitals inpatient and outpatient programs including therapeutic operations and business operations.
  • Ensures that services meet members', physician and internal clients' needs in a changing and diverse health care market
  • Assists with the Direction of and ensures continuous improvement of all clinical practices, services, and operations by managing the design and implementation of systems, processes, and methods to evaluate and improve patient care across the continuum of care.
  • Plans, develops, and/or directs the implementation of service area and/or divisional initiatives within service line or service area which develop and share best practices and standards of care.
  • Provides strategic leadership and oversight of clinical programs within the forensic and state civil inpatient psychiatric units as well as the private psychiatric units, intensive outpatient program, outpatient counseling and psychiatry program, student services and Comprehensive Behavioral Health Program.
  • Ensure efficient work flows, patient throughput and effective coordination between departments and multidisciplinary teams
  • Develop and implement operational strategies to optimize service delivery, staffing models and patient experience
  • Ensures compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations including JCAHO and CMS accreditation standards
  • Oversees clinical quality assurance processes including audits, incident investigations and performance evaluations
  • Assists with the Direction of and/or delegates to therapists the appropriate delivery and level of services.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of forensic mental health practices and emerging trends in healthcare management
  • Assists with the Direction of budget management and resource allocation; manages financial performance and identifies and implements strategies to reduce costs and improve quality of care and service.
  • Manages and resolves human resource, labor relations, employee and department safety, and risk management issues
  • Hires, fires, and disciplines as part of performance management
  • Assists with the Direction of compliance with administrative, legal, and regulatory requirements of governmental and regulatory agencies.
  • Leads efforts in staff training, professional development and continuous education initiatives to uphold clinical excellence in accordance with evidence based practices
  • Ensures timely and effective documentation practices amongst clinical therapeutic teams in accordance with hospital policy
  • Evaluates and updates policies and procedures to ensure standardized practices across service areas
  • Plays an integral role to advance our mission of providing exceptional forensic and state civil mental health services through effective leadership and multidisciplinary team approach/practices
  • Develops strategic plans that guide the overall programming and growth of the services within the state civil and forensic units as well as private inpatient psychiatric units
  • Provides direct supervision and oversight of all clinical and non-clinical personnel and practices within the state civil and forensic units as well as private inpatient units
  • Provides oversight and coordination of admissions and discharges to both forensic and state civil programs together with designated staff to ensure a smooth admission and discharge process for patients
  • Works closely with the administrative team to provide leadership/coverage/support of all units of the behavioral hospital including but not limited to on-call coverage on a rotation with administrative team
  • Other duties as assigned.

B. Working Conditions : The individual spends over 95% of his/her time in an air-conditioned environment with varying exposures to noise. There is protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. The position does have low exposure to malodorous, infectious body fluids from patients and some minimal exposure to noxious smells from cleansing agents.

C. Occupational Exposure: This position has minimal to no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues and is an OSHA Category III (although situations can be imagined or hypothesized under which anyone, anywhere, might encounter potential exposure to body fluids). Person who performs these duties are not called upon as part of their employment to perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid or to be potentially exposed in some other way.
