Job Summary
Located within the Robert H. McKinney School of Law, the Associate Director of Experiential Learning and Academic Success will have duties working jointly under the direction of the Director of Academic and Bar Success and the Director of Externships and Clinics Manager. The Associate Director will assist in managing McKinney's academic and bar support initiatives to provide a comprehensive and meaningful academic experience for law students. The Associate Director will also manage McKinney's externship operations to maintain and grow a high-quality experiential learning educational experience for law students.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Provides individual assistance and counseling to students interested in pursuing externship opportunities as part of their law school experience.
- Maintains critical data needed for American Bar Association (ABA) compliance for externship program in associated systems, including but not limited to memoranda of understanding (Adobe Sign), timekeeping (Clio), and placement and supervising attorney contact information database (12Twenty).

Assists with managing relations with existing placement partners and development and onboarding of new placement opportunities, both in the greater Indianapolis area and outside.
- Serves as the primary event planner for the office's annual Externship Fair.

Handles primary administrative responsibilities such as maintaining the Externship Office inbox, creating and maintaining externship application postings, and collaborating with the registrar for student registration.

Provides individual assistance and counseling, including regularly scheduled meetings, with students in academic difficulty and at-risk students.
- Develops and monitors academic plans and recovery plans for individual students.
- Reviews and provides critical and constructive feedback on exercises and practice exams.
- Advises at-risk students on course selection.

Meets with and counsels students on their academic skills development.

Develops and oversees the execution of individualized learning plans.

Provides 1-on-1 assistance for at-risk students.

Tracks student success and academic performance for students in academic difficulty and at-risk students.
- Utilizes Canvas e-learning management system to help develop student skills and track student progress.

Meets with and counsels Master of Laws (LLM) students on preparing their Indiana Rule 13 waiver applications.
General Responsibilities
- Develops and implements programs and initiatives geared at enhancing and reinforcing the academic engagement and experiential learning capacity of the student experience.
- Projects programming outcomes at the program, department/division, or campus level.

Interfaces directly with students, attending student programming events and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student programming initiatives and objectives.

Collaborates with staff in own department and other departments, as well as academic and campus leaders, on shared student programming goals, often coordinating funding to sponsor student programs.

Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student programs against projected outcomes.

Prepares reports on impact to students and budget and may present to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.

Serves on committees and performs student programming research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.

Plans and coordinates communications for student programming initiatives to ensure student participation and inclusion.

May provide guidance to other Student Programming Specialists.

Makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.

EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in education, social work, public affairs, counseling, business, or a related field.
Preferred
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
- 2 years in student services, higher education, or a related field.
Preferred
- 1 year of related professional experience, preferably post-law school experience or higher education experience.

Teaching, advising, tutoring, counseling, or related experience.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

- Current or previous admission to a state bar in the United States, preferably in Indiana or a Uniform Bar Examination (UBE) jurisdiction.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Some travel may be required for this position, associated with arranging externship opportunities for McKinney students, particularly in, but not limited to, more rural locations.
Work Location
This is an in-person position.
Advertised Salary
$48,000 - 55,000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience.
