Associate Director of Institutional Research

The Associate Director of Institutional Research provides leadership, expertise, and operational support in institutional research and reporting to ensure the accurate collection, validation, analysis, and use of data across the institution. This role is responsible for coordinating and executing research, reporting, and data requests; maintaining consistent data definitions and documentation; and supporting state and federal reporting, accreditation, and institutional effectiveness efforts. This role designs and manages research projects, cohort tracking, KPI reporting, dashboards, and surveys, and supports the institution’s emerging data, reporting, and analytical needs as they arise. The Associate Director collaborates within the Institutional Planning, Effectiveness, and Research department to align data, reporting, and research activities with institutional priorities and student success.

  • Design and conduct institutional research, including cohort tracking, KPI reporting, surveys, and longitudinal analyses to inform planning and decision-making
  • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and visualizations that communicate insights clearly and meet stakeholder needs
  • Partner in support of state and federal reporting processes (e.g., IPEDS, THECB), contributing to data validation, documentation, and understanding of reporting requirements and practices
  • Support accreditation, program review, and institutional effectiveness efforts through research, analysis, and reporting
  • Partner with departmental colleagues to improve research and reporting workflows, data validation processes, and consistency of data definitions
  • Communicate data insights through reports, presentations, and consultations with diverse stakeholders, and support fulfillment of data and public information requests
  • Contribute to the management and effective use of institutional data systems (e.g., ZogoTech) and maintain documentation of data definitions, cohort logic, methodologies, and reporting standards
  • Stay current on public information, privacy, and data governance requirements (e.g., FOIA/TPIA) and monitor emerging best practices, tools, and regulations related to institutional research, analytics, and reporting
  • Participate in institutional committees and cross-functional initiatives focused on student success and continuous improvement
  • Perform other duties as needed to support departmental and institutional priorities

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree
  • Two years of related experience in institutional research, data analysis, or a related field
  • Knowledge of higher education data sources and reporting requirements (e.g., IPEDS, state and federal reporting)
  • Experience working with institutional data systems or data warehouses
  • Ability to interpret and communicate data findings to support institutional planning and improvement efforts
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License and insurability under Midland College’s insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience applying research or analytics to inform institutional decisions or strategic initiatives
  • Ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for non-technical audiences
  • Experience collaborating with reporting, compliance, or assessment teams in a higher education environment
  • Experience with survey design and administration
  • Knowledge of statistical software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, R) and data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI)
  • Familiarity with accreditation processes and requirements
  • Exceptional qualifications may be considered for placement at the Director level

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • The person in this position needs to move to other locations on campus occasionally
  • This position may require occasional travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus
  • Frequently moves boxes or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Duties indoors and some outdoors
  • Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events
