We are searching for the best talent for an Associate Director, Translational Sciences (TS) Program Lead, Immunology Translational Sciences and Medicine (TSM) to be located in Cambridge, MA or Spring House, PA

Translational Sciences and Medicine (TSM) is an integrated group of scientists composed of a clinical Translational Medicine (TM) team which conducts early clinical development and experimental medicine studies, and a Translational Sciences (TS) team which uses human based data and tissues to support the end to end portfolio. Together, the TSM group will provide the key learnings/insights on the next wave of novel therapies for these patients. Organizationally, TSM serves as a pivotal bridge between Discovery Research and the later phase Clinical Development group. TSM provides the necessary scientific and clinical expertise to advance an industry-leading pipeline of novel mechanism small molecules and biologic agents to address unmet need in immune-mediated diseases.

TS has a broad remit stretching from support of discovery with human data to support target selection, through development of novel decision- making biomarkers for early phase clinical trials, target-centric indication sequencing and prioritization, and biomarker support of regulatory filings. It has expertise in biomarker development, disease biology research and in the application of immunology and data science technologies to support drug discovery and development.

This position will reside within the Immunology Translational Sciences department and requires a highly motivated and skilled candidate to lead the clinical progression of innovative therapies across Respiratory diseases.

Respiratory Translational Sciences team leads the development of innovative therapies for respiratory immune-mediated diseases such as asthma, COPD, and other T2 and non-T2 inflammatory conditions. You can influence the future of respiratory medicine by advancing biomarker-driven patient stratification, disease pathway understanding, and novel therapeutic approaches that restore respiratory health to millions from discovery to late stage clinical development

The Associate Director will serve as a Program Lead within Respiratory Translational Sciences. This leadership role requires a deep understanding of respiratory immunology, biomarker development, and translational research. The successful candidate will guide preclinical, early and late clinical programs, oversee biomarker assay development, and lead cross-functional collaborations to accelerate the development of transformative respiratory therapies.

The Associate Director will also bring a strategic, discovery-oriented mindset to translational science, with proven expertise in respiratory endpoints and sample matrices, immune cell profiling, and biomarker validation relevant to asthma, COPD, and other respiratory diseases. This role involves leading high-caliber translational biomarker initiatives, mentoring scientists, and ensuring the delivery of data supporting key program milestones.

Core Responsibilities

  • Oversee the design and execution of translational science and biomarker plans integrating both disease and pathway approaches to support portfolio programs from preclinical to late clinical development
  • Contribute to the strategies on molecular understanding of human diseases, patient stratification and biomarker-based endpoint translational strategies
  • Guide team members in the communication of study results and guide stakeholders in applying those results to making strategic decisions
  • Work closely with key leaders in partner functions to ensure project goals are met
  • Representation of TS on project teams as Translational Sciences Program Lead
  • Contribute to the overall department’s strategic direction with special focus on increasing the impact of translational science approaches in drug discovery and development
  • Lead internal and external collaborations to increase team capabilities or address a strategic need
  • Take initiative to identify, pilot and internalize emerging technical approaches that may drive increased value for portfolio execution
  • Develop technical expertise and leadership potential of team members with particular focus on training the next wave of science leaders
  • Help build an extensive external network of leaders to enable strategic partnerships and awareness of advances in translational and biomarker research
  • Prepare and/or direct the preparation and review of protocols, clinical study reports and translational science sections of Translational plans, IBs, INDs, abstracts, manuscripts, and technical reports
  • Foster external collaborations with academic and industry partners to stay at the forefront of respiratory biomarker research and immunology.
  • Mentor junior scientists, promote technical excellence, and contribute to the development of the next generation of respiratory translational leaders.
  • Prepare and review protocols, clinical study reports, translational plans, and scientific publications supporting respiratory programs.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D with a minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience leading biomarker strategies in clinical development is required, preferably in pharmaceutical or biotechnology sectors
  • Immunologist with Respiratory disease expertise is highly preferred with experience in asthma and COPD desirable
  • Creative, talented, problem-solving
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Dynamic entrepreneurial mindset
  • People management experience is preferred
  • Translational research experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional teams and project management within a matrixed environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific data into strategic insights.
  • Innovative, collaborative, and highly motivated to advance respiratory medicine.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is: $137,000 - $232,300

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees and/or eligible dependents are eligible to participate in the following Company sponsored employee benefit programs: medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, business accident insurance, and group legal insurance.

Subject to the terms of their respective plans, employees are eligible to participate in the Company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension) and savings plan (401(k)).

This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s long-term incentive program.

Subject to the terms of their respective policies and date of hire, Employees are eligible for the following time off benefits:

  • Vacation –120 hours per calendar year
  • Sick time - 40 hours per calendar year; for employees who reside in the State of Washington –56 hours per calendar year
  • Holiday pay, including Floating Holidays –13 days per calendar year
  • Work, Personal and Family Time - up to 40 hours per calendar year
  • Parental Leave – 480 hours within one year of the birth/adoption/foster care of a child
  • Condolence Leave – 30 days for an immediate family member: 5 days for an extended family member
