Job Summary

The primary purpose of this position is to develop the skill set required to economically dispatch & optimize PSEG's Generation Portfolio. Under direct supervision this position interfaces with PSEG's power plants, Power Pool Generation Dispatchers, PSEG Analysts, Traders ,and ESOC. This will allow the Associate Energy Supply Specialist to understand the operational activities associated with a real time generation dispatch and the inner workings of the Energy Trading Organization.

Job Responsibilities

The Associate Energy Supply Specialist is responsible for real time optimization of the electric energy supply portfolio through monitoring and directing the Company’s generation assets.

  • Assure optimal economic dispatch, buying and selling of energy in the hourly markets in PJM and surrounding regions, purchasing transmission services, scheduling energy associated with such hourly transactions, and gathering information and conducting analyses in support of Power Pool real time activity.
  • Coordinate generation dispatch and transaction activity with PJM, and ESOC during normal and emergency conditions.
  • Monitor and record all significant operating events for future billing reconciliation.
  • Execute short term/real time energy transactions to maximize energy supply, and optimize the Company’s real time generation portfolio position.
  • Purchase transmission for real time energy transactions with PJM and surrounding control areas.
  • Prepare necessary NERC tags for energy schedules.
  • Coordinate generation outage and testing with stations and ISO’s.
  • Gather information about the short term market through direct communication with ISO’s, and various internet based sources.
  • Monitor weather, load, energy availability, price behavior and other market factors in real time.
  • Communicate significant events/information to Portfolio team & trading staff.
  • Develop short term price forecasts as basis for hourly dispatch & trading.


The successful candidate must be able to work 12 hour rotating shifts (6-6), and every other weekend. This is a 24/7 environment. This position is NOT eligible for relocation benefits.


Job Specific Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and 0-2 years experience; in lieu of a bachelor's degree, six years’ professional experience
  • Must have strong analytical and problem solving skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Obtain PJM Certification within 6 months of start of position
  • Must be able to establish credibility in dealings with counterparts, ISO personnel as well as effectively interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Must be decisive and possess confidence to make real time decisions with minimal supervision. These decisions will have direct impact to bottom line results.
