What You'll Do

This position is for an attorney who will (1) immediately begin providing legal advice to Pantex (PXD) on one or more legal specialty areas in which the candidate is proficient, and (2) commit to developing the ability to give advice in one ore more additional specialty areas as needed.
The Legal Department needs an attorney capable of providing immediate support in one of five disciplines, in ascending order of need: (1) Labor and Employment, (2) employee benefits, (3) environmental compliance, (4) litigation, and (5) government contracting. Particular professional experience or educational credentials in any one of these areas would affect the responsibilites received. The ideal candidate would have substantial experience in one or more of these four areas that they could apply on arrival. PXD would then work with the candidate to select appropriate continuing legal education courses and other learning opportunities to develop the ability to advise PXD management in other areas. A strong candidate with a generalist's background in commercial law or litigation would, however, also be considered, but they must commit to developing expertise in one of the specialties listed above within the first two years on the job.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school and admission to the Texas Bar.
  • Seven years of experience practicing law or using your J.D. routinely to provide support in a business environment.

Preferred Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Experience and knowledge in one of the areas of law listed above or some other applicable area of substantive law, e.g., labor and employment, general business law, commercial contract law, or real estate law.
  • Experience performing legal research and drafting routine legal guidance.
  • Experience interacting with government agencies at the federal, state, or local level.
  • Experience providing legal support to an organization that provides goods and services to the U.S. Government.
  • Prior interaction with and knowledge of the Department of Energy (DOE), National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA), or other federal agencies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to deliver legal advice and counsel in the context of the company’s strategic mission and business objectives.
  • In responding to specific requests for legal advice, the ability to identify other existing legal vulnerabilities and business impacts beyond the scope of the request.
  • Both the ability for, and an interest in, learning new areas of law, taking on other duties as assigned, and demonstrating flexibility.
  • Experience and knowledge of the concepts and processes involved in preparing for negotiations, conducting negotiations (particularly negotiations involving collective bargaining agreements), and counseling a client regarding development and options in a negotiation.
  • Knowledge of the tools for legal research and the ability to devise and implement coherent and effective legal research strategies.
  • Knowledge of the rules governing the practice of law, the ability to recognize and resolve ethical issues, and strict adherence to the rules of professional conduct.
  • Knowledge of software applications and technologies used in a technologically sophisticated law office.
  • Ability to work independently as appropriate.
  • Ability to travel as needed.

If a range of Career Levels is posted, i.e., Senior Associate to Senior Specialist, internal applicants already in one of the Career Levels would come across at their current Career Level. Internal applicants currently in a lower level Career Level would move to the lowest posted Career Level.

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP). If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709. Medical requirements may apply.
