Our Global Fixed Income (GFI) program is currently seeking an Associate Investment Manager (AIM) to formulate investment recommendations for the sovereign portfolio and drive our CalPERS mission.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Provide oversight and direction to Investment Officers responsible for the analysis of all sovereign and quasi-issuers of dollar-denominated global bonds in the sovereign portfolio’s opportunity set, which extends from the highest-rated developed/emerging countries down to countries with below-investment-grade credit ratings.
- Serve as backup to the Investment Manager on emerging markets research, macroeconomic analysis, and overall portfolio management efforts managing portfolios.
- Assist in analyzing portfolio risk and performance of external Emerging Markets managers in meeting their targeted excess return targets.
- Provide research opinions and other data analytics to other CalPERS’ investment sectors on emerging market countries, risks, and potential investments and opportunities.

Position Details
This position is eligible for annual and long-term incentive awards. The annual incentive opportunity is 0-60% of salary and is based on the level of achievement against several quantitative and qualitative measures. The long-term incentive program provides an additional opportunity of 0-60% of base salary beginning after five years and when absolute total fund returns meet or exceed board-approved thresholds.

Desirable Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in Emerging Markets country and macroeconomic analysis covering diverse emerging market geographies and conducting sovereign country research, with specific knowledge of Emerging Market countries and other issuers.
- Experience managing or assisting in the management of fixed income investment portfolios.
- Ability to research industry and sovereign and quasi debt issuers of sovereign, corporate bond, and money market securities
- Graduate degree or advanced certification in a related field.
- Quantitatively oriented and experienced in analyzing and reporting on large amounts of data.
- Experience with financial/economic databases, software applications and/or computer programming languages including advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint skills, MatLab, Bloomberg, BlackRock Aladdin, Haver Analytics; Visual Basic, Python and/or other programming languages.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including making presentations.
